Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
An ulcer forms when hydrochloric acid and pepsin act on the lining of the duodenum more strongly than its protective layer of mucus can withstand. The balance is usually upset by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori or by long-term use of anti-inflammatory medicines, so treatment always has two aims: to remove the damaging factor and to let the defect heal.
That is why examination comes before prescriptions. Gastroscopy shows the size and depth of the lesion, a test detects Helicobacter pylori, and acidity and laboratory tests clarify the background the doctor will be working with. Based on the results the gastroenterologist draws up a plan: antibacterial, acid-suppressing or healing medicines and, if needed, gastroprotective agents, enzymes, diet therapy and physiotherapy. Within a few days pain, heaviness and discomfort noticeably ease, and the lining begins to recover.
In most cases the course is outpatient, without a hospital stay. Inpatient monitoring is needed only for complicated forms or bleeding. The gastroenterologist supports you at every stage, adjusts the prescriptions and checks healing with a repeat endoscopy.
Gastroenterology care in Ukraine relies on accurate diagnosis, certified medicines and a repeat check of the result. This approach does more than relieve symptoms: after successful eradication of H. pylori, the risk of the ulcer coming back is significantly reduced.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The treatment plan is chosen individually, depending on how deeply the lining is affected, whether Helicobacter pylori is present, the acidity level and your general health. Treatment may be medication, diet-based or combined, when several methods are used together to heal the ulcer completely.
Medication means medicines that reduce stomach acidity, relieve inflammation and support regeneration of the lining. If Helicobacter pylori is found, a course of antibiotics is added, together with gastroprotective agents, acid-suppressing medicines and vitamin support. This addresses not only the symptoms but also the cause of the disease.
Diet therapy is an essential part of the course. The doctor draws up a diet without spicy, fried, fatty and acidic food, coffee and fizzy drinks, which irritate the lining. Balanced eating speeds up ulcer healing, evens out acidity and reduces the likelihood of new flare-ups.
A combined regimen may include physiotherapy, mineral waters, lifestyle changes, follow-up examinations and recovery programmes. In complex cases or when there is a risk of bleeding, the course is carried out under a gastroenterologist's supervision at the clinic, with the option of a short hospital stay.
The course targets more than the symptoms: the aim is for the ulcer to heal and the lining to recover. That is why, after the diagnosis is confirmed, the gastroenterologist prescribes medicines, a diet and a repeat examination, and treatment is completed even when the pain has gone.
In the first days, keep to a gentle routine: no stress, spicy food, alcohol, coffee or smoking, and no medicines that irritate the lining. Eat small meals 5–6 times a day. Medicines are prescribed to reduce acidity, restore the lining and clear a Helicobacter pylori infection if one is found.
Recovery after the course is gradual, usually over several weeks. During this period it is important to follow the doctor's recommendations, avoid overeating, drink enough water and get enough sleep. After endoscopic or minimally invasive procedures the doctor usually advises a few days of rest and a special diet to help the lining heal faster.
If you develop pain, vomiting with blood or black stools, contact the clinic immediately. The MediUkraine team will arrange a gastroenterologist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and organise tests, treatment and follow-up to support your recovery.
Duodenal ulcer treatment is a set of measures against inflammation of the lining, aimed at healing the defect and preventing relapse. Clinics in Ukraine follow European protocols: eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection, reduction of stomach acidity and support for the lining. The aim of the course is lasting remission without complications.
Treatment is especially needed with pain, nausea, bloating, heartburn, loss of appetite, suspected bleeding or a flare-up of peptic ulcer disease. The gastroenterologist carries out diagnostics, prescribes antibacterial medicines and medicines that protect the lining, and monitors healing. In most cases this avoids the need for surgery.
A course started in good time reduces the risk of bleeding, perforation and the disease becoming chronic. The MediUkraine team will arrange treatment at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, which follows international protocols, and help you agree the date of your first consultation.
When planning peptic ulcer treatment, patients often compare the cost of treatment in different countries. In Ukraine it is lower than at clinics in Europe or Turkey, with the same techniques. You receive the full range of care — diagnostics, a consultation with a gastroenterologist, medication and monitoring of healing — at one medical centre.
The reasons for the affordable price are quite transparent. First, the cost of providing medical services in Ukraine is lower: premises, equipment maintenance and materials cost less than in EU countries. Second, competition between private clinics keeps prices open: the estimate is itemised, and items whose extent will only be known after an in-person examination or a follow-up endoscopy are marked separately. Third, most treatment regimens are outpatient, with no charge for days in hospital.
At the same time, a lower price does not mean a simplified protocol: clinics follow European standards of treatment and sterility, use certified medicines and tailor the regimen to each patient. Your condition is monitored by a gastroenterologist, including with an endoscopic examination after the course, and this monitoring is what keeps the risk of complications low.
What makes duodenal ulcer treatment more affordable in Ukraine:
• lower running costs of clinics and medical centres;
• an itemised estimate with the dates of the follow-up examination known in advance;
• an outpatient format without a hospital stay.
Private clinics in Ukraine provide duodenal ulcer treatment according to international protocols: sterility control, proven medicines and monitoring of your condition. The regimen is chosen by a gastroenterologist, and it is this individual choice that reduces the risk of side effects and complications and speeds up recovery of the lining.
During the course you remain under a doctor's supervision. Medication, diet therapy and regular endoscopic examinations follow clinical protocols, in sterile conditions and on proven equipment. For patients with other chronic illnesses the regimen is adjusted separately, taking into account the medicines they already take.
When choosing a clinic for ulcer treatment, look at the doctors' experience, the centre's licences, its own endoscopy facilities, genuine patient reviews and transparent prices. MediUkraine puts you in touch with a gastroenterologist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod. Before your first visit, gather previous medical summaries, gastroscopy results and a list of the medicines you take: this will shorten the diagnostic stage.

If you have pain in the upper abdomen, nausea or heartburn, or a Helicobacter pylori infection has already been found, the doctor will choose an individual regimen. An endoscopic or laboratory examination comes first, as it determines what exactly needs treating.
The main ones are medication, eradication of Helicobacter pylori, diet therapy and, in complex cases, endoscopic or minimally invasive procedures. The method is chosen based on the gastroscopy and the infection test.
In most patients the lining heals within two to six weeks. It is important to follow the doctor's recommendations, eat properly and avoid stress to consolidate the result of treatment.
In most cases, yes. When acidity normalises and inflammation subsides, pain, discomfort and nausea ease. A well-chosen regimen restores digestion, and you feel better within a few days.
