Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
A varicocele is a dilation of the veins of the pampiniform plexus of the spermatic cord, which causes blood to pool around the testicle. The local temperature rises, and sperm production gradually deteriorates: semen analysis shows lower sperm concentration and motility. The operation breaks this cycle: the affected veins are tied off, venous drainage returns to normal and the testicle returns to its usual temperature.
The main technique is the subinguinal operation using the Marmar method. It takes up to an hour, is done under local, spinal or general anaesthesia and hardly ever requires a long hospital stay. In most cases patients return to their normal lives within 7–14 days, and the risk of recurrence after this operation is low.
The scope of surgery is decided individually, taking into account the degree of vein damage, any pain, the clinical picture and the test results (ultrasound, Doppler). In certain cases the microsurgical operation is combined with other treatments to achieve a better reproductive result.
Varicocelectomy stops the condition from progressing, reduces pain and preserves reproductive function. The next step for you is a consultation with a urologist with the results of a scrotal ultrasound and a recent semen analysis: without these two tests the indications for surgery cannot be determined.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The microsurgical approach is widely used at Ukrainian clinics: it treats the varicose veins of the testicle, preserves fertility and reduces pain through a small incision. The hospital stay is minimal, and the operation itself usually takes up to an hour.
Varicocelectomy using the Marmar method is considered the gold standard: the abnormally dilated veins are tied off through a small incision under a microscope. Healthy tissue remains undamaged, blood flow recovers quickly and semen analysis results improve.
In more complex cases, in particular with a bilateral varicocele or associated abnormalities, laparoscopic surgery may be recommended. Both methods have proven effective in treating male infertility caused by varicocele.
The doctor chooses the approach depending on the stage of the condition, your age and any associated symptoms. The earlier you see a specialist, the better the chances of avoiding complications and preserving reproductive function.
Through MediUkraine you can book an appointment with a urologist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, have the tests and agree the date of the operation, with the route and the structure of the quote visible in advance.
The post-operative period follows a clear schedule. In the first days you may have slight discomfort or swelling in the groin: this is the natural reaction of the tissues to the incision. Return to an active lifestyle gradually: in the first week, avoid physical exertion, heavy lifting and overheating.
The length of rehabilitation depends on the scope of the operation, the degree of vein damage and your age. Most men return to work after 2–5 days, although in some cases full recovery takes 2–3 weeks. You receive personal recommendations on routine and restrictions at the check-up.
To avoid complications and recurrence, it is important to follow the doctor's instructions: avoid heat treatments, do not drink alcohol and abstain from sex for a while. You also need to keep the wound clean and drink enough fluids.
A fever, marked pain or swelling are reasons to see a doctor the same day rather than waiting for the planned check-up. MediUkraine's support continues at this stage too: from consultation to full recovery, you stay in contact with the clinic.
The method treats abnormally dilated veins of the spermatic cord while preserving full testicular function, which is why it is chosen above all for men of reproductive age: those with reduced sperm quality or who are planning to have children. Under microscopic magnification the surgeon avoids the surrounding tissues, so the clinical result is stable and predictable.
Treatment always begins with diagnosis. The urologist performs a scrotal ultrasound, orders a semen analysis and hormone tests, and assesses the grade of the varicocele. If the indications are confirmed, microsurgical varicocelectomy is recommended: a tissue-sparing option with a small incision, high precision and a low risk of recurrence.
The operation is done only when needed. If the varicocele causes no discomfort and does not affect sperm production, the doctor may limit treatment to monitoring. The final decision on treatment is made after a full urological examination.
Microsurgical varicocelectomy in Ukraine combines European precision and technology with an affordable price. Patients from abroad choose Ukrainian clinics not only for the cost but also for quick booking, well-organised preparation for surgery and a personalised approach.
The main argument for the method is that the scope of surgery is small while the precision is high. Tissues are preserved, the recovery period is short and the risk of recurrence is low, all of which matters for men of reproductive age who want not only to solve the problem but also to preserve their fertility.
The price of the operation in Ukraine is noticeably lower than at clinics in the EU or Turkey. The reasons are lower costs, access to good-quality equipment and competition between private facilities; you receive a quote with a list of items, the number of days in the country and the dates of check-ups.
The partner clinic works according to international standards, and the experience of its urological surgeons gives stable results. You receive not just an operation but a planned clinical route: diagnosis, surgery, check-ups and contact with the doctor after discharge.
▪ a lower cost of microsurgical treatment than in EU countries
▪ modern equipment and microsurgical precision
▪ preservation of reproductive function and a quick return to normal life
▪ a quote with a list of items and check-up dates, with advance notice of any changes
Microsurgical varicocelectomy is an effective method with a low risk of complications that follows international standards. At the partner clinic it is done in sterile conditions, with careful anaesthetic monitoring, infection protection and good post-operative supervision.
The microsurgical technique is used precisely because it avoids large incisions, preserves the integrity of the tissues and reduces the risk of complications. Working under the microscope helps protect the blood vessels, nerves and reproductive function. The operations are performed by experienced urologists with modern equipment.
At the partner clinic you go through the full cycle, from the first examination to recovery, within one medical facility. This adds comfort, and the stages are well coordinated because one doctor oversees them.
To be confident in the result, consider the urologist's experience, the number of similar operations they have performed, the inpatient conditions and the availability of support. MediUkraine arranges the operation at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and shows you the quote before treatment begins.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is an operation in which the dilated veins of the spermatic cord are tied off through a small incision in the groin. The surgeon works under a microscope and so can see and separate the artery and lymphatic vessels from the affected veins; these must remain undamaged. This approach noticeably reduces the risk of complications and speeds up recovery.
The cost depends on the type of operation and the range of post-operative services; prices for each option are shown in the table above. The amount usually includes diagnosis, the operation itself, anaesthesia and basic post-operative monitoring.
Citizens of most European Union countries, the UK, Turkey, Israel, the USA, Canada and a number of other states do not need a visa for a short medical visit. Check the entry rules immediately before you travel, as they change.
Suitable patients are those who:
have pain, discomfort or a feeling of pressure in the scrotum;
have reduced semen analysis results;
have been diagnosed with a grade II–III varicocele;
have fertility problems that the doctor suspects are linked to the varicocele.
Before the operation you have an ultrasound, a semen analysis and blood tests, and the doctor recommends a treatment method only based on their results.
The main method is microsurgical subinguinal varicocelectomy. It is done through a minimal incision in the groin, under a microscope. Laparoscopic and open techniques are also used, but microsurgery is associated with fewer complications and better recovery of fertility.
Recovery is usually quick. Within 2–3 days most patients return to everyday activities. Physical exertion and sport should be limited for 2–3 weeks. Semen parameters improve gradually, mostly over 3–6 months.
Usually, yes, in a positive way. In many men the operation improves sperm quality, motility and count, which is particularly important for men with infertility. Potency is not usually affected: the operation does not involve the nerve and hormonal structures responsible for erection or libido.
