Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
A flexible endoscope is inserted through natural passages, and the doctor guides it under visual control, assessing the mucosa on the screen. Special instruments are passed through the endoscope to take small pieces of tissue from the suspicious area. The image on the monitor shows where the changes are, but the diagnosis is made not from the image but from the report of the pathologist, who examines the sample under a microscope.
The examination is ordered for suspected tumours and polyps, gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and diseases of the intestine, bronchi or bladder. Histology shows exactly what changes there are in the tissue: inflammatory, precancerous or cancerous. This is a key stage of early diagnosis: confirming the nature of the process in good time gives a chance to avoid complex operations and makes treatment more effective.
An endoscopic biopsy does not require open surgery, so the strain on the body is minimal. The equipment allows tissue to be taken precisely even from hard-to-reach areas, reducing the risk of bleeding and complications. The procedure takes 20–40 minutes and is usually done without a hospital stay: within a few hours you return to your normal routine.
At the partner clinic in Uzhhorod the examination is performed according to international protocols by experienced endoscopists, under local or brief anaesthesia. MediUkraine arranges the appointment. Your next step is a consultation at which the doctor decides on the type of biopsy and the tests needed for preparation.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The type of endoscopic biopsy is chosen individually, taking into account the organ to be examined, the clinical picture, coexisting conditions and the results of previous tests. The main options are gastroscopic, colonoscopic, bronchoscopic, cystoscopic, transurethral and transrectal. In more complex cases combined or targeted techniques with additional imaging are used.
Gastroscopic biopsy is needed for suspected gastritis, peptic ulcer disease or tumours of the stomach. The doctor uses the endoscope to take small samples of the mucosa for histological analysis. The procedure causes little trauma, takes up to 20 minutes and is done under local anaesthesia or brief sedation.
Colonoscopic biopsy is used to diagnose diseases of the colon: polyps, inflammation, suspected cancer. The diagnosis is obtained without open surgery, with minimal discomfort and a quick recovery.
Bronchoscopic and cystoscopic biopsies assess the condition of the airways and the bladder respectively. Both allow a tissue sample to be taken precisely even from hard-to-reach areas without disrupting the function of the organ.
When prostate cancer is suspected, a transrectal or transurethral prostate biopsy is performed under ultrasound guidance. Sampling is accurate, and the tissue samples are sent for detailed histological examination, the result of which guides the choice of treatment.
These techniques are performed according to international protocols, with strict sterility control and pain relief. MediUkraine connects you with experienced endoscopists at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod who work with modern equipment.
After an endoscopic biopsy you remain under observation for anything from a few hours to a day, depending on the type of procedure. In the first days mild discomfort at the sampling site, a sore throat after gastroscopy or bronchoscopy, and small traces of blood in the stool or urine are possible. This is an expected reaction of the body and passes quickly.
Then comes rest and a gradual return to your normal routine. For the first 1–2 days avoid physical exertion, do not have hot food or drinks if the sample was taken from the digestive tract, and avoid hot baths and saunas. The doctor sets your diet and medication based on the results of the examination.
After local anaesthesia you can return to work the next day. If sedation or anaesthesia was used, it takes 1–2 days to get back to full activity. During this time drink enough fluids, follow the specialist's advice and do not irritate the treated area.
A fever, pain, bleeding or other unusual symptoms are reasons to contact a doctor or the clinic where the procedure was done immediately. MediUkraine supports you after the examination as well: a specialist consultation, tracking when the histology is ready, and further recommendations on treatment or monitoring.
Tissue sampling does not involve the hormonal system and only a small sample is taken, so the procedure does not usually affect potency, libido or the ability to conceive. The sample is taken under imaging guidance from a clearly defined area, and access is through natural passages, without incisions in the pelvic area.
In men the examination is ordered to clarify the diagnosis when a prostate condition is suspected, and in women when examining the cervix or endometrium. In both cases only a small sample is taken, and histology shows the cause of inflammation or infertility and helps the doctor plan treatment.
Before the procedure the doctor may order additional tests, such as a semen analysis, hormone tests, an ultrasound or MRI, to plan the examination more precisely. MediUkraine connects you with the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, where such examinations are performed according to international protocols, with attention to reproductive safety and your comfort.
When planning diagnostics abroad, count not only the price of the procedure itself but also the related costs: accommodation, transfers, tests, anaesthesia, laboratory analyses and consultations. In Ukraine all stages, from the first examination to the histology results, usually take place at one medical centre, and a hospital stay is either not needed or lasts a few hours.
Why does it work out cheaper? Firstly, the underlying cost of medical services, such as rent, consumables and staff salaries, is considerably lower than at clinics in the EU or Turkey. Secondly, competition between private medical facilities pushes them to offer transparent packages without hidden charges. Thirdly, the minimally invasive technique does not require long inpatient observation, which directly reduces the bill.
At the same time, a lower price does not mean lower safety standards: the partner clinic follows sterility and anaesthetic support protocols. Endoscopic biopsy is performed by experienced specialists, and the samples are analysed in a laboratory.
It is considered a low-risk procedure; the doctor will explain the possible risks in your case beforehand. At the partner clinic in Uzhhorod the examination is performed according to European standards: with full anaesthetic support, strict infection control and monitoring after the procedure. Modern endoscopic equipment helps ensure accurate sampling and minimal tissue trauma.
The procedures are performed by experienced endoscopists who follow safety protocols. Thanks to the minimally invasive technique, most of these examinations are done on an outpatient basis, and you go home on the same day.
When choosing a clinic, look at the number of procedures performed, the doctors' qualifications and the standard of sterility. MediUkraine assesses the partner clinic on real patient reviews, verified data on procedure outcomes, how quickly results are delivered and cost transparency.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is a minimally invasive diagnostic method: with a flexible endoscope the doctor examines an internal organ, such as the stomach, intestine, bronchi or bladder, and takes a small tissue sample for histological analysis. It is this sample that determines the nature of the disease: inflammatory, benign or malignant.
The cost depends on the organ, the type of anaesthesia and the level of the clinic. On average the price ranges from USD 58, considerably less than in EU countries (from USD 1,000). MediUkraine agrees a transparent estimate without hidden charges.
Citizens of the EU, the UK, Canada, Israel and Turkey do not need a visa for a short medical visit. Check the current entry rules for your country before you travel. MediUkraine can help you plan the trip and advise on transfers and accommodation.
The doctor determines the indications after a consultation and preliminary tests: ultrasound, MRI or endoscopy. The examination is recommended when a diagnosis needs to be clarified or the nature of a growth, inflammation or infection established. In most cases there are no restrictions, but there are temporary contraindications, such as acute infections or blood clotting disorders.
The main types are gastroscopic (stomach, duodenum), colonoscopic (colon), bronchoscopic (lungs), cystoscopic (bladder), transrectal (prostate) and hysteroscopic (uterus).
Recovery takes 1–3 days. You return to normal life on the same or the next day, following the doctor's advice.
As a rule, it does not affect reproductive health. Only a small sample of tissue is taken, without interfering with hormones. If you are planning a pregnancy, mention it at the consultation.
