Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
The adenoids are the pharyngeal tonsil at the top of the nasopharynx. When they enlarge, air can no longer pass freely through the nose, the Eustachian tube is less well ventilated, and the tissue itself becomes a constant focus of infection. The operation removes this mechanical obstruction: the surgeon cuts away the enlarged tissue without touching the healthy mucosa around it.
The ENT doctor chooses the technique after an examination and endoscopy: conventional, endoscopic or laser. The patient's age, the degree of enlargement, how often inflammation occurs and other conditions are taken into account, so the decision to operate is always individual.
The procedure takes up to 30 minutes and is done under direct vision, under general or local anaesthesia. Endoscopic and laser techniques reduce bleeding and post-operative inflammation, so healing is faster, and within a few days you return to your usual routine. With the obstruction removed, difficulty breathing, snoring, frequent colds and ear infections usually ease, and sleep and appetite improve.
Enlarged adenoids are a common reason to see a paediatric ENT specialist. Neglected enlargement leads to a chronic runny nose, hearing problems and an abnormal bite. That is why a child with a constantly blocked nose and night-time snoring should have an endoscopy of the nasopharynx: it shows the real degree of enlargement.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The technique is chosen for the particular child, taking into account age, the degree of enlargement, how often inflammation occurs and any other diagnoses. There are three basic options: conventional, endoscopic and laser adenoidectomy.
Endoscopic adenoidectomy is used more often than the others: the surgeon works under optical guidance and removes the enlarged tissue without injuring healthy structures of the nasopharynx. Direct vision reduces the likelihood of recurrence and bleeding. The operation takes 15–30 minutes, and within a few hours the patient goes home.
Laser adenoidectomy is a minimally invasive option in which the enlarged tissue is vaporised by a laser beam. Bleeding is minimal, and the risk of infection and post-operative swelling is low. This method is often chosen for children with allergies or sensitive mucosa.
In complex cases, when there is a lot of tissue or it is combined with chronic inflammation, a combined approach is used: endoscopy together with laser coagulation. This makes it possible to remove the enlarged tissue more thoroughly while reducing discomfort for the child.
The radiofrequency technique is used less often, mainly where it is important to keep bleeding to a minimum. Which option suits your child becomes clear after endoscopy of the nasopharynx: the doctor sees the size of the tissue and how much it blocks the back of the nasal passages.
In the first days after the operation, a moderate sore throat, swelling of the mucosa and a slightly raised temperature are possible: this is the body's expected reaction to surgery. The symptoms gradually fade, and breathing through the nose becomes noticeably easier within the first days.
For 1–2 weeks, avoid physical exertion, hot baths, swimming pools and walks in cold weather. Food should be soft and at room temperature: soups, purées, yoghurts. Hot, spicy and hard foods are temporarily excluded so as not to irritate the mucosa.
Children usually return to school or adults to work after 5–7 days, and sport and physical activity only with the doctor's permission. The mucosa of the nasopharynx heals completely in 2–3 weeks; at the end of this period the ENT specialist carries out a final follow-up examination.
Drink enough water, follow the doctor's instructions and make sure the child has a calm rest routine. If a high temperature, difficulty breathing or bloody discharge appears, contact the clinic promptly for an examination and adjustment of treatment.
Removing the enlarged tissue is half the job. The other half is giving the child back full nasal breathing, on which the development of the facial skeleton and speech depends. For children who are often ill, sleep badly and find it hard to concentrate because of a constantly blocked nose, the operation becomes the point after which their condition changes noticeably.
The method is decided after full diagnostics: an examination of the nasopharynx, endoscopy and, if needed, an X-ray or MRI to assess the size of the adenoid tissue. The doctor then chooses a conventional, endoscopic or laser option, and in complex cases a combined removal, to fully restore airway patency.
Not every child needs surgery: some cases can be managed with medicines. The final decision is made by an ENT specialist after an examination, taking into account the child's age, the degree of enlargement and how often inflammation occurs.
When planning the operation, count not only the cost of the procedure itself but also tests, anaesthesia, the stay at the clinic, post-operative care and the doctor's follow-up. In Ukraine the final amount is one of the lowest in Europe, mostly because the procedure is done on an outpatient basis or with a hospital stay of just 1 day.
Prices stay lower for several reasons. The cost of medical services, materials and premises in Ukraine is noticeably lower than in EU countries or Turkey. Competition between private clinics pushes them to show package offers with a list of items: what is included in the price and what is paid separately. And minimally invasive techniques shorten the hospital stay, and therefore the bill.
The lower price does not mean lower standards: private centres work to international protocols and provide full anaesthetic support, infection control and comfortable conditions for children. ENT surgeons have considerable experience of endoscopic and laser operations, so the course of surgery is predictable and complications are rare.
Like any operation, it carries some risk, but it is a routine procedure with a low complication rate. Private clinics in Ukraine work to European safety standards: full anaesthetic support, infection control and monitoring of the child after surgery. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia or sedation, with a short hospital stay and a predictable course.
Most centres have ENT surgeons experienced in paediatric ENT and endoscopic equipment that allows the tissue to be removed precisely without touching healthy structures. This reduces the risk of complications and speeds up healing.
When choosing a clinic, look at the surgeon's experience, the number of operations performed, patient reviews and adherence to international protocols. Ask for a written quote before admission: at private centres this is standard practice.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
The adenoids are the pharyngeal tonsil, lymphoid tissue in the nasopharynx that often enlarges in children. When it blocks nasal breathing, snoring, frequent colds and ear infections appear. In such cases the ENT doctor may recommend adenoidectomy, an operation to remove the enlarged tissue.
Adenoidectomy in Ukraine starts from USD 318, depending on the clinic, the type of anaesthesia, the doctor's qualifications and the technique chosen (endoscopic, laser and so on).
Patients from most European countries do not need a visa. Entry rules for citizens of other countries differ and can change, so check the current requirements before the trip.
The operation is recommended if the adenoids are significantly enlarged, make breathing difficult, sustain chronic inflammation or reduce hearing. It is usually performed in children over 3–4 years old.
In Ukraine conventional, endoscopic, radiofrequency and laser adenoidectomy are used. The choice depends on the patient's age, the anatomy of the nasopharynx and the degree of enlargement.
A child usually returns to normal life after 5–7 days. Full healing of the mucosa takes about 2 weeks.
Adenoidectomy is not considered to weaken immunity, because only the abnormally enlarged tissue, which is itself a source of infection, is removed. After the operation children are usually ill less often and breathe better through the nose.
