Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
A narrowed section of the urethra cannot be widened with medication: scar tissue does not respond to conservative treatment. The surgeon either cuts out the scar and joins the healthy ends of the channel “end to end”, or replaces the defect with a graft, usually a flap of the lining of the cheek. The choice between these two approaches depends on the length of the narrowing and where it is.
Buccal mucosa grafts are used for long or multiple strictures. The operation is done under general or spinal anaesthesia, takes about 1.5–2 hours and does not require a long hospital stay: in most cases patients are discharged after 1–3 days.
The approach is chosen individually, taking into account the location and length of the narrowing, previous procedures, and the results of urethrography, ultrasound and urodynamic tests. In complex cases treatment is divided into several surgical stages.
Urethroplasty removes the cause of the symptoms, reduces the risk of infections and restores controlled urination. The next step for you is urethrography and a consultation with a urologist: these will show whether a single-stage operation is enough in your case.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

In Ukraine, urethral reconstruction is performed as the main way to restore normal urination and reduce pain. Careful surgical technique makes it possible to cut out the affected section of the urethra precisely while preserving the surrounding tissues and their function. The operation involves a short hospital stay and does not leave significant scars.
Substitution urethroplasty with a graft from the lining of the cheek or a skin graft is a widely used standard technique for longer strictures. This method keeps the urethra open, reduces the risk of recurrence and returns you to your usual routine without long restrictions on activity.
In complex cases, such as long strictures or repeated damage, multi-stage reconstructive operations are recommended. In the hands of an experienced urologist-andrologist, these operations improve the chances of a full recovery and of preserving sexual function.
The approach depends on the location of the stricture, your age, previous procedures and the test results. A timely consultation helps to prevent the urethral obstruction from progressing and affecting the kidneys.
Through MediUkraine you can book an appointment with a urologist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, have the necessary tests and arrange the operation along a clear route, with an itemised quote and dates of check-ups.
A reconstructive operation on the urethra involves not only restoring the patency of the channel but also a carefully supervised rehabilitation period. In the first days you may have discomfort, swelling or difficulty urinating: this is an expected reaction of the body. Return to your normal life gradually: in the first week, limit physical activity and avoid getting cold or overexerting yourself.
The length of rehabilitation depends on the scope of the operation, the location of the stricture and your individual characteristics. In most cases you can return to everyday activities after 5–10 days, while full recovery takes up to several weeks. The doctor gives clear recommendations on routine, hygiene and the necessary restrictions.
To avoid triggering a new narrowing or inflammation, it is important to follow all the urologist's instructions: abstain from sex for the specified period, avoid baths and saunas, take care of intimate hygiene and drink enough fluids.
A fever, severe pain or problems urinating after the operation are reasons to see a doctor immediately. MediUkraine patients stay in contact with the clinic at every stage, from planning the operation to the check-up examination.
Urethroplasty is a method of restoring the patency of the urethra in strictures, injuries or congenital abnormalities. The operation removes the obstruction to normal urination, aims to preserve erectile function and returns you to your everyday life. Careful technique protects the adjacent tissues and gives a stable clinical result.
Treatment begins with a detailed diagnosis. The urologist performs uroflowmetry, ultrasound, urethrography or endoscopy to assess the length and location of the damage. If surgery is indicated, reconstruction is chosen as a tissue-sparing option, with high precision, an individual approach and a low risk of recurrence.
Surgery is performed when the stricture makes urination difficult. With minor symptoms the doctor may recommend observation. The final decision is made after a full urological examination and consultation.

In most cases, no: with a precise surgical approach the blood vessels and nerves around the urethra are preserved, so erectile function and ejaculation are maintained.
