Cancer Check-up in Ukraine

A cancer check-up is a programme of examinations that looks for malignant tumours and precancerous changes before any symptoms appear. The set of tests is chosen individually, according to your age, sex, family history and occupational factors. It usually includes a consultation with an oncologist, blood tests with tumour markers and ultrasound and, if indicated, a mammogram, CT scan or endoscopy. A tumour found at stage I–II has a better prognosis than one found late.

Cost of a cancer check-up in Ukraine

Service🇺🇦 Ukraine🇨🇿 Czech Republic🇹🇷 Turkey

Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.

About the cancer check-up

First the oncologist takes your medical history and determines which organs are at risk in your case, and only then draws up the list of tests. That is why two people of the same age may have different sets of procedures: they depend on sex, family history, habits and working conditions. A cancer check-up looks not only for malignant tumours but also for precancerous conditions.

The basis of the programme is a clinical examination, laboratory diagnostics (blood tests, tumour markers) and imaging and instrumental tests. These include ultrasound of the internal organs, CT or MRI if indicated, endoscopic procedures and, if needed, a biopsy. The tests are performed by doctors who specialise in oncology.

The combined results give the oncologist a complete clinical picture, from which a personal plan for prevention or treatment is drawn up. The earlier a diagnosis is made, the higher the chances of successful treatment and of preserving quality of life.

MediUkraine organises the check-up at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod: we take care of booking, scheduling and support until you have the results in your hands.

Coming to Uzhhorod for treatment: what to expect

Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.

Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.

Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.

Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.

Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Equipment and specialists' qualifications

Ukrainian cancer centres use CT and MRI, digital mammography and PET: it is this technology that detects tumours at an early stage.
Oncologists at Ukrainian facilities have the appropriate qualifications and experience of working according to international protocols for cancer diagnosis and treatment, and they regularly update their qualifications.
MediUkraine manages the whole process, from booking a consultation to coordinating with the clinic.

Preparation: what to do 7–10 days before your visit

  1. Preparation determines whether the results can be assessed: an incorrectly taken blood test or failure to follow the instructions before an ultrasound means the test has to be repeated.
  2. Preparation starts 7–10 days before the examination.
  3. Before imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI), call the clinic to check any specific requirements.
  4. MediUkraine will coordinate the examinations, agree appointment times and look after your comfort at every stage.

Treatment methods if a tumour is found

When the check-up finds a malignant process, the treatment approach is chosen from several options. Surgery remains one of the main methods: the tumour and the regional lymph nodes are removed during the operation. The extent of the operation is determined by the stage of the disease, the location and the pathological type of the tumour. Minimally invasive techniques, which cause less tissue trauma and shorten rehabilitation, are used more and more often.

Radiotherapy is used both on its own and in combination with other methods. External beam radiation is directed at the tumour with minimal effect on healthy tissue, which is the job of treatment planning and dose calculation systems. Brachytherapy (internal radiation) is used for certain tumour sites: it delivers a high concentration of radiation precisely to the affected area.

Chemotherapy and targeted therapy act systemically, on the whole body. Conventional chemotherapy attacks fast-growing cells, while targeted drugs act on specific molecular targets in the tumour. Immunotherapy, in turn, activates your own immune system to fight the tumour. MediUkraine helps coordinate treatment at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod in line with current protocols.

Advantages of the programme and how long it takes

  • A comprehensive check-up at Ukrainian medical centres costs 40–60% less than at European and American clinics, without falling short in the level of service.
  • Ukrainian cancer centres use CT and MRI, PET, ultrasound and image-guided biopsy, and their approaches follow international oncology protocols.
  • The programme includes a first consultation with an oncologist, laboratory tests, imaging and instrumental diagnostics, and a plan for follow-up or treatment.

Recovery after cancer treatment

Recovery after cancer treatment is a separate stage that affects quality of life and the prevention of recurrence. After chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery, the body needs comprehensive rehabilitation. At this stage cardiologists, pulmonologists and other specialists become involved: they monitor side effects and restore the function of the organs affected by treatment.

The rehabilitation programme consists of physiotherapy, nutritional support, psychological support and medicines prescribed to support blood counts and the immune system. The recovery plan is written for the individual patient, taking into account the type of cancer, the treatment method and general condition. Regular consultations with an oncologist are needed to spot early signs of complications and adjust the course in time.

MediUkraine arranges rehabilitation with specialists experienced in working with cancer patients. We coordinate the stages of recovery and keep the doctor and the patient in constant contact, so that rehabilitation goes according to plan.

What the programme includes for women and for men

A cancer check-up is built on a common framework: a consultation with an oncologist with a detailed medical history, laboratory tests (including tumour markers), ultrasound and CT if indicated. The plan then branches out depending on your age, sex, family history and risk factors.

For women, a mammogram or breast ultrasound, a gynaecological examination and cervical cytology screening are always added. For men, a PSA test and prostate ultrasound are recommended. Through the MediUkraine platform you are referred to the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, which uses standardised examination protocols based on international guidelines.

The tests are performed by specialists in oncology. At the end you receive a detailed report with recommendations on prevention or further follow-up. MediUkraine coordinates the process and keeps the prices and terms of the check-up transparent.

Why is a cancer check-up better value in Ukraine?

A cancer check-up in Ukraine costs less above all because of the difference in the price of medical services. With the same level of equipment and specialist qualifications, diagnostic procedures here cost 30–50% of the price abroad.

The programme itself (laboratory diagnostics, imaging and a consultation with an oncologist) is chosen individually, according to your age, sex and risk group, so you do not pay for procedures you do not need.

Doctors regularly update their qualifications. The MediUkraine platform will help you book an appointment with a specialist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and coordinate the whole check-up.

You will receive a detailed explanation of your results with conclusions, which you can use to continue treatment or follow-up with a specialist in your own country.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cancer check-up?

A cancer check-up is a comprehensive programme of examinations aimed at the early detection of cancer. It includes laboratory tests, imaging and instrumental examinations (ultrasound, CT, mammography, colonoscopy and others) and consultations with the relevant specialists. The aim is to find disease at an early stage, when there are more treatment options and the prognosis is better.

How much does a cancer check-up cost in Ukraine?

The cost depends on the programme you choose: basic, extended or sex-specific. The price usually includes laboratory tests for tumour markers, imaging and consultations with oncologists or with gynaecologists or urologists. Current prices for each programme are shown above.

When should you see a doctor?

A check-up is recommended once a year, even if you have no symptoms. An unscheduled consultation with an oncologist is needed if you notice new growths or moles, lumps, sudden weight loss, chronic fatigue, changes in digestion, or blood in the stool or urine. These signs do not always mean a tumour, but you should not put off an examination.

How do I prepare for a cancer check-up?

The day before the check-up, avoid fatty food, alcohol and caffeine. Blood for tumour markers is taken on an empty stomach. Before an abdominal ultrasound, limit foods that cause wind, and before a colonoscopy, follow the bowel preparation plan given by your doctor. The doctor will explain any other requirements when you book.

Can I have a cancer check-up during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Basic diagnostics (tests, ultrasound, examination) can be done during pregnancy. Examinations involving ionising radiation (CT, mammography), however, are usually postponed or replaced with methods that do not involve radiation. The doctor adapts the programme to the woman's condition.

Who is a cancer check-up recommended for?

A check-up is recommended for everyone from the age of 25, especially people with a family history of cancer, smokers, people who spend a lot of time in the sun and those who work with toxic substances. It is particularly important after the age of 40, when the risk of cancer rises significantly.

Can I skip a check-up if nothing is bothering me?

Having no complaints does not mean having no disease: in the early stages a tumour often causes no symptoms, which is exactly why screening is offered to people who feel healthy. Statistics show that when cancer is found at stage I–II, five-year survival rates are much higher than with late diagnosis. This applies to many cancers, from breast cancer to melanoma, if treatment starts in time.

The scope of the check-up depends on your age and risk factors, so the programme can be shortened on a doctor's advice, but not skipped altogether. MediUkraine helps arrange a detailed check-up at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, with CT, MRI and laboratory diagnostics. A timely diagnosis combined with a well-chosen treatment plan increases the chances of recovery and quality of life.
