Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
Rectosigmoidoscopy is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure: the instrument has a built-in video camera, a light source and working channels through which the doctor passes biopsy forceps or a polyp removal tool. These channels allow diagnosis to turn into treatment when needed, so you do not need a second session.
The examination is recommended for suspected inflammatory bowel disease and to monitor its course, for haemorrhoids, anal fissures and polyps, and as part of cancer screening. Clinics in Ukraine use high-resolution endoscopes: they magnify the image, and images of the relevant areas are added to the report.
The examination is done as an outpatient, after bowel preparation, and takes 10–15 minutes. If needed, a biopsy is taken, polyps are removed or other treatment is performed during the examination itself.
Through MediUkraine you can arrange the examination at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and see the specialist's qualifications and the equipment in advance.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Standard rectosigmoidoscopy is the basic examination of the lining of the rectum and sigmoid colon to a depth of up to 25 cm. It is performed with a flexible scope with a built-in optical system and a channel for instruments: a biopsy can be taken from a suspicious area, a polyp removed or a bleeding vessel coagulated. It takes 10–15 minutes and does not require general anaesthesia.
The rigid technique is used less often today but is still needed when the lower rectum must be examined in detail or a complex procedure performed. The rigid instrument opens the bowel lumen better and gives a more accurate picture where there is narrowing. On the other hand, it requires more thorough preparation and is harder to tolerate than the standard option.
Examination with therapeutic procedures includes polyp removal, adrenaline injection of vessels to stop bleeding, removal of foreign bodies and electrocoagulation of abnormal growths. The technique is chosen according to the clinical diagnosis and indications. The MediUkraine team will arrange the procedure with an experienced specialist at the partner clinic for your case.
Recovery after this examination is usually minimal: the procedure is minimally invasive, and most patients return to normal activity within a few hours. If a biopsy was taken or polyps were removed, it takes a little longer, but the advice stays the same.
For the first 24 hours, avoid heavy physical exertion, sport and long journeys. Eat light food: soup, porridge, fermented milk products; put off hot, spicy and heavy food. Drink enough water to avoid dehydration. If abdominal pain or bleeding appears, contact the doctor immediately without waiting for a scheduled visit.
If you have been referred for this examination, MediUkraine will arrange it with experienced specialists at the partner clinic and tell you how to prepare and what to expect afterwards. If tissue was taken during the examination, the final report will follow after histological analysis.
Rectosigmoidoscopy gives the doctor a direct view of the lining of the rectum and the lower large bowel over a length of 20–25 cm. The instrument is a flexible rectosigmoidoscope with a video camera and light, so the whole procedure can be seen on a monitor.
The examination is done as an outpatient, without general anaesthesia. You lie on your left side, and the instrument is gradually inserted into the bowel. The doctor assesses the lining and looks for inflammation, polyps, ulcers and other abnormal changes. If needed, the doctor takes a biopsy or removes benign growths straight away.
Through MediUkraine you can book the procedure at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, see the prices and review the gastroenterologists' qualifications.
Rectosigmoidoscopy in Ukraine costs noticeably less than in Western Europe and the USA. At medical centres in the USA and clinics in the UK and Germany the procedure costs USD 2,000–4,000. Even taking travel and accommodation costs into account, the difference remains in Ukraine's favour.
This does not affect the quality of medical services. Ukrainian proctologists work with appropriate equipment, rely on international diagnostic standards and follow aseptic protocols. The specialists' experience and the clinic's facilities meet European requirements, which is why the results are reliable.
The MediUkraine platform helps international patients quickly agree the date of the procedure at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and get preparation advice. We take care of coordination with the clinic, which saves you time, and the clinic's team communicates with international patients in English. You will receive a calculation of the full cost of your visit, including related services, before you travel.
The safety of rectosigmoidoscopy rests on three things: reprocessing of equipment, the doctor's qualifications and patient selection. MediUkraine's partner clinic uses modern endoscopes with automated washing and disinfection systems. Doctors regularly update their qualifications. Before the procedure you are examined clinically and with laboratory tests so that no contraindications are missed.
The partner clinic follows established protocols for laboratory diagnostics and endoscopic procedures. Each room is equipped with systems for monitoring your vital signs and has emergency medicines. Nurses receive separate training in supporting patients during diagnostic procedures.
MediUkraine checks the clinic's licences, helps with paperwork and stays in touch with the medical team. If you have chronic conditions or take anticoagulants, mention this at the consultation: it determines how you prepare.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
Rectosigmoidoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the rectum and the lower part of the sigmoid colon. The doctor sees the lining on a monitor and records inflammation, polyps, tumours, erosions or other abnormal changes. It is one of the main diagnostic methods in proctology and helps detect disease at an early stage.
See the prices in the table above; the amount depends on additional services such as a proctologist consultation, tests or anaesthesia. In most cases the examination is done as an outpatient, without admission, so there are no costs for a hospital stay.
See a proctologist if you have pain, burning or itching around the anus, blood when passing stool, frequent constipation or a feeling of incomplete emptying. These complaints occur with different conditions, from haemorrhoids to polyps. The examination helps establish the exact cause of the symptoms and choose the right treatment.
The doctor prescribes a diet without foods that cause gas, and bowel cleansing with mild laxatives or enemas. On the day of the procedure you must not eat for 6–8 hours before the examination. How to take your regular medicines is agreed with the doctor in advance.
Yes, if there is a medical reason, the examination is performed under a doctor's supervision. It is usually postponed until after the birth, and if it cannot wait, it is performed carefully using safe methods.
Rectal pain, bleeding, suspected polyps, tumours or inflammation. The examination is also recommended for monitoring after treatment of haemorrhoids, colitis or bowel surgery.
Yes, in most cases general anaesthesia is not needed: the examination takes 10–15 minutes, and local anaesthesia is usually enough. If you wish, the clinic can offer sedation instead of local anaesthesia, in which case anaesthesia support is added to the bill.
Bear in mind that this is mainly a diagnostic procedure: the doctor examines the lining of the rectum and the lower large bowel over a length of 25-30 cm and can detect inflammation, polyps, ulcers, haemorrhoids and other abnormal changes. Recovery depends on the diagnosis that is confirmed and the treatment the doctor chooses, not on the examination itself.
If a condition is found, for example haemorrhoids, polyps or inflammation, the doctor will draw up a treatment plan: medication, a minimally invasive procedure or surgery. Some findings, including polyps, are removed during the examination itself. The MediUkraine team will help you arrange the procedure with a qualified coloproctologist at the partner clinic, who will also prescribe treatment for any problems found.
