Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
Prenatal diagnostics is based on combining data: the doctor assesses the baby's anatomy on ultrasound, compares it with the mother's blood biochemistry and the stage of pregnancy, and gets not a diagnosis but a risk estimate. If the risk is high, an invasive test that obtains genetic material confirms or rules it out. The placenta, blood flow and organ development are also monitored step by step, so abnormalities are seen before any symptoms appear. That is why the tests are recommended for all pregnant women, not only those with symptoms or a family history: the first screening takes place at 11–14 weeks, and then according to the pregnancy care protocol.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Ultrasound remains the main method. In early pregnancy (11–14 weeks) the scan is usually transabdominal, with a transvaginal scan added if needed: the baby's anatomy is assessed and the nuchal translucency is measured. In the second and third trimesters, the scan is transabdominal, with detailed assessment of organ development and a search for structural abnormalities. A detailed scan with Doppler shows blood flow between the uterus and the placenta and between the placenta and the baby.
Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) analyses fragments of the baby's DNA in the mother's blood and is done from week 10 of pregnancy. The test screens for common chromosomal abnormalities with an accuracy of over 99% for the most common ones, but it is a screening test: a high-risk result needs confirmation by invasive testing. It is safe for the mother and the baby, which is why it is often done first, before invasive procedures.
Invasive diagnostics means amniocentesis (sampling of amniotic fluid) and cordocentesis. They are ordered when a chromosomal or genetic condition is suspected: the procedures provide genetic material for karyotyping and molecular analysis. MediUkraine arranges prenatal diagnostics at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, from screening to invasive methods.
Straight after the procedure you receive a report: a description of the baby's development, an assessment of the results and advice on diet, routine and preventing possible risks. Together with the report, the doctor draws up a plan of next steps: which tests and scans to have and when. Within a few days the picture of your pregnancy becomes clear, and instead of guesswork you have a specific schedule.
In the weeks after the examination, stick to this plan: do not miss the prescribed tests or scans, avoid excessive physical exertion and stress, and follow the recommended routine. If an abnormality or increased risk is found, the doctor sets up a separate monitoring schedule and tracks the baby's development.
Minor changes in how you feel are common during this period, both from anxiety and from the pregnancy itself; this is a normal reaction. Warning signs are pain, unusual sensations, a change in vaginal discharge and a change in the baby's movements. If you have any of these symptoms, see a doctor straight away rather than waiting for a scheduled visit.
The programme is divided into three scheduled points. The first screening is done at 11–14 weeks, the anomaly scan at 18–22 weeks and the third screening at 30–34 weeks. At each point the doctor looks at a specific set of markers, so each has its own window that should not be missed.
Ultrasound is the basis of all three stages: it shows congenital abnormalities, signs of genetic disorders and the rate of the baby's development. The examinations are carried out at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod by specialists in prenatal medicine and obstetrics.
When screening shows a high risk, invasive methods are used: amniocentesis and cordocentesis provide genetic material for laboratory analysis and detection of chromosomal abnormalities. MediUkraine arranges consultations with geneticists and fetal medicine specialists and brings all the tests together into one clear schedule.
Prenatal diagnostics in Ukraine costs considerably less than in Western Europe and the USA. An ultrasound screening with a detailed check of the baby for signs of chromosomal abnormalities costs 30-50% of the price at private clinics in Germany or the UK. Invasive tests (amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling) at Ukrainian medical centres are 2-3 times cheaper, which is why a comprehensive programme becomes affordable for more patients.
The savings do not affect the quality of care. The price difference comes from lower operating costs and the absence of a premium for a private clinic's brand, not from a simplified examination protocol.
MediUkraine guides international patients and manages the whole process, from booking to specialist consultations, and the clinic's team communicates with international patients in English. The cost is agreed before the visit, so you know the total in advance and see exactly what you are paying for.
Prenatal diagnostics follows international medical standards: it is performed on precise equipment, with sterility and minimal intervention. Ultrasound and blood tests are non-invasive; before an invasive procedure, the doctor explains its risks to you. Monitoring at every stage reduces risks, and your data remain confidential.
The examinations are performed by doctors with experience in prenatal medicine who review each case individually. They take into account the stage of pregnancy, ultrasound results, biochemical markers, genetic risks and the course of the pregnancy, which gives an accurate assessment of the mother and the baby, timely detection of problems and a well-founded plan for monitoring or treatment.
The procedure is set out in international protocols: medical history, tests, comprehensive interpretation of the results and recommendations. The doctor supports you at every stage of the examination. If you are choosing a clinic, ask which protocol the doctor follows and whether they hold an FMF certificate: this is a quick way to check the level of the centre.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is a set of tests that assess the baby and the mother-to-be: ultrasound, genetic screening, laboratory tests and other examinations. Together they show possible developmental problems early and give the doctor grounds to adjust your pregnancy care.
The cost depends on the scope of the tests: standard screening is inexpensive, while extended genetic tests cost noticeably more. Overall, prices are lower than in most European countries, and the protocols are the same international ones.
The first examination is recommended before week 12 of pregnancy. After that, diagnostics follow the protocol in the second and third trimesters. It is also worth seeing a doctor outside the schedule if you feel unwell, have a chronic illness, had complications in previous pregnancies or have risk factors.
A routine ultrasound needs no special preparation: just come with a moderately full bladder. Bring previous test results and information about hereditary conditions, previous pregnancies and operations. Come for blood tests on an empty stomach; before an invasive procedure you will need a clotting test and tests for infections.
Yes. The approach is chosen taking into account chronic illnesses, endocrine disorders, pregnancy complications and your medical history. If needed, the doctor changes the timing or scope of the tests so that the examination is safe for both the mother and the baby.
Indications include a mother aged 35 or over, hereditary conditions in the family, complications in previous pregnancies, chronic illness, rhesus incompatibility and developmental problems seen on previous scans. But basic screening is recommended for all pregnant women, even when there are no risk factors.
The answer depends on the nature and stage of the condition found. The examination detects chromosomal abnormalities (Down and Edwards syndromes) and structural abnormalities of the heart, kidneys and other organs during pregnancy. For some conditions found at this stage, treatment in the womb or a specific plan for managing the pregnancy and birth is possible, which improves the outlook for the baby. But not all abnormalities can be corrected before birth.
Many of the conditions diagnosed will need specialist treatment after birth. That is why early diagnosis is crucial: it gives parents time to prepare, helps choose how to manage the pregnancy and birth, and ensures the baby gets the necessary medical care from the first days of life. MediUkraine, as an intermediary, will arrange a detailed consultation with the relevant specialist about your specific situation.
