Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
The method is based on high-frequency sound waves: the probe sends them into the tissues and picks up the reflected signal, and the scanner turns it into an image in real time. Different tissues reflect ultrasound differently, so the doctor sees the outline and density of the liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, bladder and major blood vessels and measures their size during the scan itself.
High-resolution scanners show even small abnormalities. The procedure is painless, needs no anaesthesia and can be repeated without harm to health. A standard examination takes 15–25 minutes.
The scan is ordered for abdominal pain, suspected inflammation of the organs, stones, cysts or tumours, and as part of a preventive check-up. You receive the result as a detailed report describing all the changes found, with recommendations for further treatment. It gives the size of the organs in millimetres, the structure of the tissues and the characteristics of any lesions found.
MediUkraine will arrange the examination with an experienced sonographer at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The basic option is a general abdominal ultrasound: the doctor assesses the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and kidneys in turn. The technique involves no ionising radiation, so the scan can be repeated as often as necessary and is used in pregnant women and children.
During the session the sonographer moves the probe over the skin of the abdomen and watches the image on the screen in real time. This reveals inflammation, cysts, stones, tumours and other abnormalities. Some clinics also offer Doppler imaging, which assesses blood flow in the vessels of the organs and is important in liver cirrhosis and varicose veins.
When the standard image is not enough, contrast-enhanced ultrasound is used: you receive a special agent for better visualisation of the tissues. In most cases the general scan is ordered, and Doppler and contrast are added for specific indications. Through MediUkraine you can book a convenient time at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod for the type of examination you have been prescribed, and we will tell you which options are available there.
No special recovery is needed after an ultrasound scan: the skin is not punctured and no anaesthesia is used, so straight after the procedure you can eat and return to your usual activities. What happens next depends on what the doctor has seen.
Through MediUkraine you receive a detailed interpretation of the images. If abnormalities are found, the clinic's doctor draws up an individual treatment or monitoring plan. If the doctor prescribes dietary restrictions, follow them.
Inflammation, cysts and stones need monitoring over time. MediUkraine coordinates follow-up ultrasound scans and keeps a record of your examinations so there is something to compare with. A repeat scan is usually scheduled after 3–6 months, depending on the nature of the finding and the specialist's recommendations. Keep the report and images: at the next session the doctor will compare the size and structure of the organs against them.
Digestion involves several organs working at once, and a problem in one of them quickly affects the others. Ultrasound shows them together: the liver, the gallbladder and its ducts, the pancreas, the spleen and the kidneys. A general scan needs no contrast agents and no pain relief, so it is ordered for patients of any age.
You lie on a couch, the doctor applies gel to the skin of your abdomen so that the probe has close contact with the body and moves the probe over different areas of the abdomen, and the image is shown on a monitor in real time. The scan takes 15–30 minutes, depending on the scope of the examination and your anatomy.

Pricing here works differently from European and American clinics. An examination in a Ukrainian medical facility costs considerably less than the same scope of diagnostics in Germany, France or the USA. The difference comes from lower costs for maintaining equipment, utilities and staff salaries; it does not affect how the examination itself is performed.
You pay for the medical service, not for the logistics around it. A lower price does not mean a shortened protocol: the doctor examines the same list of organs and issues a report with the same structure.
MediUkraine, as a coordinating partner, saves you time looking for a clinic and agreeing a schedule, and shows you the price at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod in advance.
The method involves no ionising radiation and has no known side effects, so the examination is used even in pregnant women and children and repeated as often as monitoring requires.
The partner clinic follows hygiene regulations, uses sterile single-use materials and services its equipment regularly in line with the manufacturers' requirements. The only discomfort during the session is the cool gel and light pressure of the probe on your abdomen; after the scan the gel is simply wiped off with a tissue.
Ultrasound specialists hold state licences, have completed specialist training and regularly update their skills. MediUkraine shows you the prices at the partner clinic, so you can check them before you book.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is a non-invasive examination in which the doctor uses ultrasound waves to assess the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and other organs. It helps detect inflammation, stones, cysts and tumours at an early stage, when there may not yet be any symptoms.
The price starts from USD 18 and depends on the clinic. It usually already includes the interpretation of the results and a consultation with the doctor. This is noticeably cheaper than in European countries, with a comparable class of equipment.
As a preventive check, once a year, especially after the age of 30. More often if you have symptoms: abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, heaviness after eating, digestive problems or suspected liver, kidney or pancreatic disease. An unscheduled examination is ordered by a doctor based on the consultation.
Do not eat for 6–8 hours before the procedure, and for a few days beforehand cut out foods that cause gas: beans and pulses, fizzy drinks and cabbage. If needed, the doctor may recommend enterosorbents so that gas in the bowel does not obscure the organs.
Yes. The examination involves no ionising radiation, so pregnancy is not a contraindication: the method is also used to monitor the internal organs of the expectant mother.
Abdominal pain, heaviness after eating, suspected gallstones, pancreatitis or hepatitis, an enlarged liver or spleen, and planned monitoring after surgery.
Cysts, focal lesions and stones are visible even when small, which is why ultrasound is ordered first when the liver, pancreas, kidneys or spleen need checking. But the sonographer's report describes the change itself, not its nature.
To determine the nature of a finding, the doctor adds other examinations and tests if needed. Ultrasound is a diagnostic procedure, not a treatment: it sets the direction of therapy, and the earlier a change is found, the more treatment options remain.
