Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Ukraine

This section covers ten orthopaedic and trauma services — from an online consultation and a review of your scans to arthroscopy, joint replacement and rehabilitation. Most people arrive with two questions: how much the procedure costs, and whether they can show their MRI to a doctor remotely first. The consultation is where people usually start: it is where you discuss whether surgery is needed at all.

Where to start

Patients rarely search for the name of a procedure — they search for what bothers them every day. Choose the situation closest to yours.

What determines the method and the price

What affects the scope of surgery and the cost
Which joint, and what exactly is damaged — The knee, shoulder and hip are operated on differently, and the clinic’s published prices are listed by joint. Meniscus arthroscopy starts from USD 440, and diagnostic shoulder arthroscopy from USD 516.
Scope of surgery: diagnosis, repair or reconstruction — Even within a single arthroscopy, prices vary noticeably: a diagnostic procedure, joint debridement, meniscus repair and ligament reconstruction are priced differently. The doctor determines the exact scope after an examination and imaging.
One joint or two — Bilateral hip replacement starts from USD 1,744, and unilateral from USD 872 (excluding implant). Whether both joints can be replaced is decided by the doctor based on the patient’s condition.
Anaesthesia and length of surgery — The clinic lists the duration separately for each service: knee arthroscopy takes 40–90 minutes, shoulder arthroscopy 60–120 minutes, hip replacement 1.5–3 hours and knee replacement 1.5–2.5 hours. General, spinal or regional (nerve block) anaesthesia is used — the choice is made together with the anaesthetist.

How much it costs in Ukraine

All amounts in the table are starting prices (“from”) and are given in US dollars, as the clinic sets them. The total depends on the scope of surgery, the type of implant, the anaesthesia and how many days you spend in hospital. The final amount is confirmed after an in-person examination and a review of your scans, so the table is a guide for planning, not an invoice.

Diagnostic shoulder arthroscopy starts from USD 516, and rotator cuff repair from USD 516 (excluding fixation devices). These are starting prices; the exact amount is confirmed after an examination.
How does an online consultation with an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon work?
It is a video call with the doctor. An initial consultation starts from USD 18, and a follow-up or progress check from USD 16. Have your scans ready in advance: they give the doctor most of the information.
How much does knee replacement cost?
Partial and total knee replacement start from USD 1,124 (excluding implant). The operation takes 1.5–2.5 hours under general or spinal anaesthesia. Rehabilitation is not included in these amounts and is charged separately.

Diagnostic meniscus arthroscopy starts from USD 440, partial meniscectomy from USD 440 and meniscus repair from USD 440. The procedure takes 40–90 minutes. Whether the damaged part is removed or the tear is repaired depends on the type of injury, and this is decided based on the examination and imaging.

How long does rehabilitation after surgery take?
Programmes in this section are tailored to the procedure. The actual length differs from person to person, and the plan is drawn up after surgery.
