Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
A flexible bronchoscope is a thin tube with a video camera and a light source at the tip. The doctor passes it through the nose or mouth, past the vocal cords, into the trachea and on into the bronchi, assessing the magnified lining: its colour, swelling, the nature of the mucus, any narrowing and areas of bleeding. The instrument has a working channel for forceps, a brush or a catheter, so a suspicious area can be sampled or treated straight away without interrupting the examination.
Unlike X-ray and CT, which show the shadow and density of tissue, endoscopy gives a direct image and material for the laboratory. That is why it is recommended when imaging has revealed changes but has not explained what they are, or when symptoms last for months while the scans remain “clear”.
Depending on the indications, the examination is done under local anaesthesia or sedation. In most cases it is a short outpatient procedure, although after more complex procedures a short hospital stay for observation may be needed. The doctor explains every stage in advance, including the preparation: no food, water or smoking beforehand.
The method remains key in diagnosing chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung growths and long-standing airway obstruction. It shows the cause where other tests give only indirect signs, and further treatment is planned on the basis of its results.
MediUkraine arranges the examination with an experienced pulmonologist-endoscopist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and agrees the examination plan and a quote with no hidden charges. After the procedure you receive the examination report and, if needed, a consultation on the biopsy results and next steps.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The method is chosen individually, depending on your condition, the suspected diagnosis and the purpose of the examination. It can be diagnostic, when the cause of a persistent cough, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, inflammation or a suspected tumour needs to be found, or therapeutic, to remove mucus or a foreign body, stop bleeding or deliver medicine directly into the airways.
A diagnostic examination allows a detailed view of the lining of the trachea and bronchi, a biopsy, a cell washing for cytology or a tuberculosis test. High-definition video systems give a clear image, so small changes are visible straight away and discomfort for the patient is minimal.
Therapeutic bronchoscopy is used for bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, aspiration and post-operative complications, or when the bronchial tree needs to be cleared. In complex cases, bronchoscopy can also be used for laser coagulation, cryotherapy or endoscopic removal of growths; the doctor will tell you whether this applies in your case.
Pain relief also varies: local anaesthesia or brief sedation. The choice depends on the scope of the procedure, any other conditions and how calmly you tolerate procedures in the throat; the doctor makes the final decision after a consultation and examination.
The MediUkraine team arranges the examination at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and, on request, shows you its Ministry of Health licence for medical practice and the list of equipment in the endoscopy room. You will know in advance which version of the procedure is planned, how long it will take and what the quote includes, with no hidden costs.
In the first hours after the examination you may have a slight sore throat, a cough, a feeling of irritation or mild chest pain. This is a normal reaction of the airways to the instrument and usually passes within a day.
For 24 hours, avoid smoking, hot drinks and physical exertion so that the lining has time to recover. You can eat after 2–3 hours, once the local anaesthetic has fully worn off. After sedation, do not drive or operate machinery for a day.
Most patients return to their usual activities the next day. After therapeutic bronchoscopy or a biopsy, the doctor may advise a few days of rest: during this time it is important to drink enough water, avoid getting cold and take your medicines as prescribed. The biopsy results are discussed at a follow-up consultation once the laboratory report is ready.
Contact the clinic immediately if you develop a severe cough with blood, shortness of breath, chest pain or a fever. The MediUkraine team arranges follow-up after the procedure and a consultation with a pulmonologist and, if needed, a check-up examination at the same clinic.
Diseases of the bronchi can masquerade as a “lingering cold” for a long time: the cough is blamed on the weather, shortness of breath on tiredness, and the road to a diagnosis stretches over months. An endoscopic examination breaks this cycle because it shows the state of the airways directly and immediately provides material for the laboratory.
It is particularly important for a chronic cough, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, and suspected tuberculosis, bronchial asthma or lung tumours. During the procedure the doctor takes tissue samples for biopsy or washings for cytology, so an accurate diagnosis is made without complex surgery.
A tumour or infection found at an early stage is treated differently from an advanced one, so it is better not to postpone the examination. The MediUkraine team arranges the examination at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, where it is carried out according to international standards, and agrees a time that suits you.
When planning a respiratory examination, patients often compare prices in different countries. In Ukraine, bronchoscopy costs noticeably less than at clinics in Europe or Turkey, and you go through the full cycle (consultation, diagnosis and, if needed, treatment) at one medical centre.
The reasons for the affordable cost are quite ordinary. First, the cost of providing medical services (rent, utilities, consumables) is lower than in EU countries. Second, competition between private clinics pushes them to offer clear package deals with no hidden charges. Third, modern techniques allow the examination to be done as an outpatient procedure, without lengthy inpatient observation.
A lower price does not mean a simplified protocol: the clinic works under a Ministry of Health licence for medical practice, documents the reprocessing of endoscopes, monitors air quality in the endoscopy units and uses single-use systems. An anaesthetist is on hand alongside the endoscopist, and the flexible instrument with a camera keeps discomfort and the risk of complications low.
The main reasons for the lower cost of the examination in Ukraine:
• lower cost of consumables and medical services;
• transparent all-inclusive packages with no extra charges;
• the option of having the procedure as an outpatient, without a hospital stay.
The partner clinic performs bronchoscopy under a Ministry of Health licence for medical practice, with sterile reprocessing of instruments, monitored anaesthesia and proven equipment, which keeps the risk low. Flexible video instruments reduce discomfort and give a clear image of the lining, so the doctor works under visual control at every stage.
You are under the supervision of an anaesthetist, and local anaesthesia or intravenous sedation makes the procedure practically painless. Sterile endoscopy units, air disinfection systems and single-use instruments keep the risk of infection to a minimum, which is especially important for patients with chronic conditions.
When choosing a reliable medical facility, look at the endoscopists' experience, patient reviews and price transparency, and ask the clinic specific questions before you book.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is an endoscopic examination of the airways: the doctor passes a thin, flexible bronchoscope through the nose or mouth and examines the trachea and bronchi from the inside. It reveals inflammation, growths and foreign bodies, and a tissue sample can be taken for analysis if needed. At the partner clinic in Uzhhorod the procedure is done as an outpatient, under local anaesthesia or brief sedation; the clinic provides its licence for medical practice and the list of tests required before the examination on request.
The cost depends on the type of procedure (diagnostic or therapeutic) and the anaesthesia used; prices for each option are shown in the table above. The clinic gives the exact amount after the consultation, once it is clear whether a biopsy is needed, and shows which items the quote includes: the examination, pain relief, biopsy and histology.
Most citizens of European countries, the UK, Canada and Israel do not need a visa for a short stay in Ukraine for medical purposes. Check the current entry rules for your citizenship before you travel. Patients come for the consultation and examination after agreeing the date in advance through MediUkraine.
The examination is recommended for patients with a chronic cough, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, or a suspected tumour, inflammation or foreign body in the airways. Contraindications are determined by the doctor after a preliminary examination; these are usually severe cardiovascular disorders or uncontrolled hypoxia.
There are two main types:
Flexible (fibreoptic) bronchoscopy is the main option in everyday practice: it is minimally invasive and done under local anaesthesia or intravenous sedation;
Rigid bronchoscopy is used to remove large foreign bodies, for bleeding or for surgical procedures in the airways.
After the procedure you stay under medical observation for another 1–2 hours while the anaesthesia wears off. In most cases you can return to your usual activities the same day. Sometimes there is mild throat irritation or a cough that passes within a day.
Yes. The examination shows the cause of a cough, difficulty breathing, coughing up blood or a suspected infection or tumour. The doctor does not stop at diagnosis: in a single procedure they can remove mucus plugs, clear the bronchi or take a biopsy.
