Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
The colposcope is not inserted into the body: the instrument, with optics and a light, is positioned at a distance, and the doctor works with a magnified image of the cervix. At this scale the surface relief and borders of the epithelium, the pattern of blood vessels and areas with an unusual blood supply become visible. It is the nature of the vessels and the way the tissue reacts to diagnostic solutions that show the gynaecologist where the lining has changed and whether a sample is needed for histology. Without this magnification, small areas of dysplasia go unnoticed.
The examination is not done for everyone: the reasons are an abnormal cytology result, detected HPV, visible changes on the cervix or symptoms that a routine examination does not explain. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis, takes about a quarter of an hour and needs no anaesthesia or long recovery. Based on the result, the doctor either confirms that the changes are benign or marks out an area for biopsy and decides on the next steps: monitoring, treatment or a follow-up examination at a set time.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Colposcopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure: the doctor examines the surface of the cervix under magnification without damaging the tissue. The aim is to find and describe areas of altered epithelium, including dysplasia. Through MediUkraine you can book both basic options at the partner clinic: a simple examination and an extended one with diagnostic tests.
Digital colposcopy with video recording is the standard at specialist facilities. The doctor works with a microscope and a camera, so the image is saved to a file and can be compared at later examinations. Areas with an abnormal blood supply are clearly visible on the screen: a targeted biopsy is taken from them, and they are also used to judge how well earlier treatment has worked. The examination takes 15–20 minutes and is done on an outpatient basis.
Colposcopy with chemical testing involves applying acetic acid solution and Lugol's iodine. Healthy and altered epithelium react to them differently, so the borders of an abnormal area stand out more clearly and benign processes are easier to distinguish from potentially cancerous ones. If needed, a biopsy and radiofrequency ablation of altered areas are performed under colposcopic guidance, so diagnosis and treatment of some gynaecological conditions can fit into one visit.
MediUkraine arranges an appointment with an experienced specialist, agrees a date that suits you and takes care of the booking.
There is no complicated recovery after colposcopy: you can return to your usual activities straight after the examination. If an extended examination was done or a biopsy was taken, mild discomfort or light discharge is possible; this usually passes quickly. The doctor tells you about any restrictions for the first days after the procedure, depending on its scope, and it is important to follow them to avoid affecting the result and to prevent complications.
What happens next depends on what the examination showed. The gynaecologist compares the condition of the cervix with your test results and decides on the next steps: monitoring, further tests or treatment. In most cases the examination is enough for a clinical decision, but if changes are found, follow-up with a repeat examination may be needed.
If unusual symptoms appear after the procedure, see a doctor without waiting for your scheduled visit. Otherwise the next step is simple: wait for the results and come to a consultation, where the gynaecologist will explain the findings and, if needed, set a date for a follow-up examination.
Colposcopy of the cervix is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure in which the lining is examined under magnification. The colposcope magnifies 6–40 times, and it is at this scale that abnormal changes become visible at an early stage. The reasons for the examination are abnormal Pap smear results, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection or clinical signs of cervicitis.
You lie back in a gynaecological examination chair, the doctor inserts a speculum and examines the surface of the cervix step by step. To see suspicious areas better, tests with acetic acid and Lugol's iodine are used. If changes are confirmed, a biopsy is taken: a small tissue sample for histological examination. The whole examination takes 10–20 minutes, is done on an outpatient basis and without anaesthesia.
The risk of complications is low: brief bleeding is possible only after a biopsy. The examination itself does not damage the tissue of the cervix, so it does not affect future pregnancy plans. MediUkraine arranges your appointment with a qualified gynaecologist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod.
Colposcopy of the cervix is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure in which the doctor examines the lining under magnification and detects abnormal changes at an early stage. In EU countries patients pay EUR 300–600 for it, and in the USA USD 400–800, while in Ukraine it costs considerably less. The difference is explained by lower staff costs and lower running costs of medical facilities, while gynaecologists' professional training remains at a high level.
The accuracy of diagnosis at Ukrainian private clinics is ensured by examination protocols and the doctor's qualifications. Operating, energy and staff costs are significantly lower than abroad, and this does not affect the quality of care.
MediUkraine arranges your appointment at the partner clinic, agrees the date of the procedure and prepares the necessary paperwork. This saves you time searching and makes communication with the clinic more transparent, while keeping the price affordable.
Colposcopy is a low-risk examination. Private clinics in Ukraine work according to established medical protocols, so risks during the examination are kept to a minimum. The examination is performed by a suitably trained gynaecologist, and high-resolution optics show the condition of the lining without damaging the tissue. In most cases the procedure is done on an outpatient basis, in comfortable conditions and without significant discomfort.
You are supported from the first consultation to the interpretation of the results and further recommendations. The findings are explained by the doctor who carried out the examination, so you can ask questions straight away. If follow-up examinations or additional procedures are needed, the gynaecologist sets their dates based on the result.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is an examination of the cervix under magnification: the doctor uses an optical instrument that is not inserted into the body and sees the surface relief of the lining and the pattern of blood vessels. The procedure makes it possible to detect inflammation, dysplasia and other changes at an early stage.
The price depends on the clinic and the scope of diagnostics. On average a standard colposcopy costs from USD 18, and an extended one with additional tests from USD 24.
Citizens of many countries do not need a visa, or can obtain one through a simplified procedure. The specific requirements depend on your country and the length of your stay, so please check them before you travel.
The examination is recommended for women with suspected cervical conditions, after abnormal smear results, with HPV or for routine follow-up. The gynaecologist makes the final decision after a consultation.
A standard or extended examination is used, the latter with special solutions that help assess the tissue more accurately. If needed, a biopsy is taken during the examination.
The examination takes 10–20 minutes and needs no recovery. You can return to your normal life straight afterwards.
The answer depends on the nature of the condition found. If the examination shows dysplasia of the epithelium (usually associated with human papillomavirus, HPV), treatment is prescribed to remove the abnormal cells and prevent cancer from developing. Modern methods of removing tissue, such as electrosurgery, laser treatment and cryotherapy, achieve recovery in 85–95% of patients at early stages of the disease.
However, full recovery requires not only appropriate treatment but also follow-up. After treatment, regular check-ups are arranged to rule out recurrence and monitor the lining. The outlook is much better when the condition is found early, which is why colposcopy is considered a preventive method. The MediUkraine team will arrange an appointment with a gynaecologist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod for the examination and any further treatment.
