Allergy Check-up in Ukraine

An allergy check-up establishes exactly what your body reacts to: pollen, house dust, animal dander, foods or contact substances. The programme combines an examination by an allergist, skin tests (prick and patch tests), a blood test for specific IgE and spirometry. The report with the doctor's interpretation is ready within 3–5 days. Based on the results, the allergist draws up an action plan: avoiding the allergen, antihistamine treatment or allergen immunotherapy.

Cost of an allergy check-up in Ukraine

Service🇺🇦 Ukraine🇨🇿 Czech Republic🇹🇷 Turkey
Allergist consultation and choice of check-up programmefrom USD 31from USD 200from USD 400

Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.

What an allergy assessment shows

Most allergic reactions begin when the immune system produces specific IgE antibodies against an ordinary substance such as pollen, a food protein or house dust mites. On repeated contact these antibodies trigger the release of histamine, followed by a runny nose, rash, itching or difficulty breathing. An allergy check-up shows which allergens you have become sensitised to and how strong that sensitivity is.

The programme combines skin tests (prick test, patch test) and blood tests that measure IgE levels to specific allergens. Together they cover seasonal allergies, reactions to household allergens, food allergies and contact sensitisation. You receive the results with a detailed interpretation within 3–5 days.

The final step is a consultation with the allergist and an individual management plan: allergen immunotherapy, antihistamine treatment or avoiding certain foods, depending on the results. MediUkraine coordinates the whole process, from booking appointments to receiving your results.

Knowing the exact list of allergens means you no longer have to treat symptoms blindly or find the right medicine by trial and error. With the report in hand, you can move straight to the next step: agreeing a treatment plan or a course of immunotherapy with your doctor.

Coming to Uzhhorod for treatment: what to expect

Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.

Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.

Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.

Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.

Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Who should have an allergy assessment

The assessment is needed above all by people whose reactions come back every season, who react to several groups of allergens at once or whose asthma is poorly controlled.
Assessing your allergy status is more than a list of allergens: the doctor analyses how they act and predicts how the condition is likely to develop.
MediUkraine takes care of the organisation: booking the assessment and explaining how to prepare for testing.

Preparing for the assessment

  1. Skin test results depend on which medicines you took in the days before, so preparation starts in advance.
  2. 5–7 days before the assessment, stop taking antihistamines (for example cetirizine, fexofenadine, chloropyramine and similar medicines): they suppress the skin reaction and make the tests inconclusive.
  3. The day before the procedure, eat as usual and do not try new foods.
  4. MediUkraine will book your allergy check-up and pass on detailed preparation instructions from the clinic.

Methods of allergy diagnosis and treatment

Allergy diagnostics rely on three groups of methods: skin testing, immunological blood tests and provocation (challenge) tests. Skin tests quickly point to relevant allergens through the local release of histamine. A blood test for specific IgE antibodies gives a quantitative measure of sensitisation; it is used when dermatitis is widespread or when skin testing is not possible.

Conservative treatment rests on two pillars: avoiding contact with the allergen and medication. First- and second-generation antihistamines relieve acute symptoms, while topical corticosteroids reduce local inflammation in rhinitis and dermatitis. Systemic steroid treatment is prescribed in severe cases and only under the supervision of an allergist.

Allergen immunotherapy is used for moderate and severe seasonal or year-round allergies. You are given gradually increasing doses of the allergen responsible, so that the body develops tolerance. The course lasts 3–5 years, works in 70–80% of patients and opens the prospect of long-term remission.

MediUkraine arranges an allergist consultation at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and coordinates the tests the doctor recommends.

Benefits of a comprehensive allergy assessment

  • An allergy check-up brings together in one programme what you would otherwise have to do in parts: skin prick tests, immunological blood tests, provocation tests and lung function tests.
  • The second benefit is money and time.
  • Ukrainian allergists work with different types of reactions, respiratory, food and contact, and draw up personalised plans with allergen immunotherapy and antihistamines.

What happens after testing

Recovery after testing usually takes no more than a few days, depending on the scope of tests. After skin tests, redness and itching may appear where the allergens were applied: this is an expected reaction and it fades within 24 hours. After intradermal tests the marks last a little longer, but this does not usually limit your everyday activities.

For 3–5 days it is best to avoid intense exercise, hot baths and saunas, and to keep the test areas out of direct sunlight. Do not scratch or injure the skin in the test area. Agree your diet with the doctor, especially if oral food challenge tests were planned.

The doctor will explain in detail how to care for your skin after the tests and how to follow the recommendations based on the results. Our team coordinates the whole process and stays in touch between you and the allergist throughout the follow-up period.

How a comprehensive assessment works

A comprehensive allergy assessment begins with a conversation: the doctor takes a detailed medical history, asks about the circumstances of previous reactions and carries out a physical examination. Laboratory tests are then ordered to establish an exact diagnosis and your individual sensitivity to different allergens.

The core of the diagnostics is skin testing: small amounts of standardised allergens are applied to the skin and the reaction is recorded within 15–20 minutes. This detects hypersensitivity to pollen, dust mites, animal dander, foods and other potential allergens. If needed, blood tests for specific IgE antibodies are added to clarify the picture.

The MediUkraine team will arrange a consultation with an allergist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, who will choose the check-up programme and advise where to have the tests.

Why is an allergy check-up cheaper in Ukraine?

An allergy check-up in Ukraine costs noticeably less than in Europe and the USA. A package of an allergist consultation, skin tests, immunological blood tests and spirometry usually costs less than a similar package at clinics abroad.

Arranging the check-up through MediUkraine removes the risk of overpaying because of incomplete information. We book you in with an allergist without a long wait and guide you through every stage of the assessment. This saves both money and time.

A common mistake is to assume that cheaper means worse. Ukrainian allergists work with modern diagnostic equipment. Rent and staff costs in Ukraine are lower, which explains the lower bill and has nothing to do with the quality of care.

Is allergy testing safe?

The risks of allergy testing are managed through clinical protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases. Procedures are carried out in rooms that meet medical hygiene requirements. Only a doctor with the appropriate training may perform prick tests, assess specific immunoglobulins and carry out other tests.

The partner clinic that MediUkraine works with follows the requirements of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Allergy testing is carried out where spirometry and blood tests are available, provocation tests are performed only under medical supervision, and staff are specially trained to respond to anaphylaxis and other complications.

MediUkraine can share information about the clinic's licence, the doctors' qualifications and the available equipment. With this information it is easier to make an informed decision and plan your allergy check-up.

Frequently asked questions

What is an allergy check-up?

An allergy check-up is a comprehensive assessment that identifies the causes of allergic reactions, evaluates the immune system and gives you a clear plan for the next steps. It includes a consultation with an allergist, a review of your symptoms and specialist tests.

How much does an allergy check-up cost in Ukraine?

The first step is an allergist consultation and choice of check-up programme at the partner clinic, from USD 31. The final total depends on the number and type of tests, so the doctor gives the cost estimate after the examination. Prices in Ukraine are considerably more affordable than in European countries.

Do I need a visa for a check-up in Ukraine?

Citizens of many countries can enter Ukraine visa-free or under simplified rules. For a short medical visit, a visa is usually not required, but please check the current entry rules for your country.

Is an allergy check-up right for me?

Yes, if you have allergy symptoms: a runny nose, rashes, itching, a cough or seasonal reactions. The assessment also makes sense for prevention and for finding the cause of chronic symptoms.

What methods are used during the check-up?

Laboratory blood tests (specific IgE), skin prick tests and other diagnostic methods are used to identify allergens accurately.

How long do the assessment and recovery take?

The visit itself takes a few hours: skin tests are read after 15–20 minutes, spirometry and a blood sample add a little time, and the full report is ready within 3–5 days. You can return to your usual routine the same day. Because the programme consists of skin tests, spirometry and blood tests, it does not involve surgery or medicines that affect your general condition.

Discomfort where the allergens were applied passes within minutes; occasionally mild redness and itching remain and disappear within a day. The only restrictions are a few days without intense exercise, hot baths or saunas. The partner clinic you book through MediUkraine will give you detailed instructions on preparation and aftercare: they reduce the likelihood of unwanted reactions and improve the accuracy of the results.

Can allergies be cured completely?

Patients often ask this at the very first consultation. There is currently no method that removes an allergy for good. But with an accurate diagnosis and the right treatment, most people achieve lasting remission or a significant improvement in quality of life: symptoms can be controlled and progression of the disease held back.

An allergy assessment, which you can arrange through MediUkraine, shows the exact causes of your reactions and becomes the basis for an individual treatment plan. Depending on the type of allergy, seasonal, food or contact, specialists offer allergen immunotherapy, medication or measures to avoid the allergen. In some cases, once the cause has been found and removed, the symptoms disappear completely. Regular follow-up with an allergist helps reduce flare-ups and keep the condition stable for many years.
