Gastritis Treatment in Ukraine

Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining, and the treatment plan depends on its cause: the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, raised acidity, the effect of medicines or poor eating habits. The type of inflammation — acute, chronic, atrophic or erosive — is determined by gastroscopy, an H. pylori test, an assessment of stomach acidity and a biopsy of the lining. Bacterial gastritis is treated with an eradication regimen including antibiotics, raised acidity with acid-suppressing medicines, and erosive forms with medicines that help the lining heal faster; most patients feel relief within a few days of starting treatment. A timely course reduces the risk of peptic ulcer disease and atrophic changes in the lining, so it is best not to put it off. MediUkraine arranges a gastroenterologist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, coordinates the tests and calculates a cost estimate with no hidden costs.

Cost of gastritis treatment in Ukraine

Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.

About gastritis treatment

The inflamed lining loses its protective layer of mucus, and stomach juice starts to eat into the stomach's own wall: this is the mechanism behind the pain, heartburn and nausea. That is why treatment works in two directions at once: it removes the damaging factor (the bacterium, excess acid, irritating medicines) and gives the lining the conditions to recover. The plan is drawn up after gastroscopy and tests, because the same symptoms occur with both the high-acid and the low-acid form, and the medicines differ in these cases.

The basis of the course is acid-suppressing medicines, gastroprotective agents and diet therapy; if Helicobacter pylori is confirmed, an eradication regimen with antibiotics is added. At the same time the doctor adjusts your eating pattern: without this, medicines have only a temporary effect. Pain, heartburn and nausea usually ease within a few days, although the lining takes longer to heal.

In most cases you are treated as an outpatient and come to the clinic only for consultations and follow-up examinations. A hospital stay is needed for acute forms, bleeding or severe pain.

Before the course starts, the gastroenterologist explains how long it will last, which medicines must not be combined and which symptoms mean you should come back earlier than scheduled. The clinic operates under a Ministry of Health licence for medical practice and uses medicines registered in Ukraine; the tests included before the course and the dates of follow-up visits are provided on request.

Coming to Uzhhorod for treatment: what to expect

Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.

Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.

Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.

Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.

Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Indications: when treatment is needed

Gastritis treatment is needed when you have pain in the upper abdomen, nausea, heartburn, bloating, belching, loss of appetite or heaviness after meals.
Treatment is always prescribed if Helicobacter pylori is confirmed by laboratory tests or endoscopy, as this bacterium is considered the main cause of the disease.
More complex cases are managed at the clinic under a gastroenterologist's supervision.
The decision to start a course is made by the gastroenterologist after a consultation and a review of the test results.

How to prepare for the course

  1. Everything starts with a consultation with a gastroenterologist: the doctor clarifies your symptoms, reviews your test results and asks about other illnesses and how you tolerate medicines.
  2. Be sure to list all the medicines you take, above all anticoagulants, anti-inflammatory medicines, antacids and dietary supplements.
  3. A few days before you start, cut out spicy and fatty food, alcohol and smoking.
  4. Gastroscopy is performed on an empty stomach, so the doctor will tell you separately when to have your last food and water before the examination; it is worth writing this down at the consultation.

Which methods are used

The treatment plan is chosen individually, according to the form of the disease, the test results and your general health. Treatment may be medication, diet-based or combined, when several methods are used together for a lasting result.

Medication means medicines that reduce stomach acidity, relieve inflammation and speed up healing of the lining. If Helicobacter pylori is found, a course of antibiotics is added together with gastroprotective agents. This regimen removes the cause of the disease, not just its symptoms.

Diet therapy is not an add-on but part of the course. The doctor draws up a diet without spicy, fatty and acidic foods and drinks that irritate the lining. A steady eating pattern keeps acidity within normal limits and reduces the likelihood of a new flare-up.

A combined approach adds physiotherapy, mineral waters, lifestyle changes and follow-up examinations. If the inflammation is complicated by erosions or ulcers, you may be admitted to hospital for a few days, and gastroscopy can be performed under sedation if needed.

The MediUkraine team arranges treatment with experienced gastroenterologists at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, where gastritis is treated according to international protocols. You receive an accurate diagnosis, a workable treatment plan and a transparent cost estimate with no hidden costs.

Advantages of a comprehensive approach

  • Gastroenterology centres in Ukraine operate under a Ministry of Health licence for medical practice: accurate diagnosis, an individual treatment plan and prevention of relapse within one facility.

What to do after the course

The course does not end with the last tablet: next come diet therapy, monitoring of the lining and prevention of relapse. In the first days you may have brief stomach discomfort or mild weakness, which is how the body reacts to healing.

Your diet stays gentle: no hot, spicy or fatty food, alcohol, coffee or fizzy drinks. Small portions 5–6 times a day: this routine does not force the stomach to produce acid in bursts and lets the lining recover. Reintroduce your usual foods gradually and one at a time, so you can see straight away which one brings back heartburn or heaviness.

Take the medicines prescribed by the gastroenterologist until the end of the course, even when the symptoms have gone: stopping early brings the inflammation back and leaves the bacterium in the lining. After 2–4 weeks the doctor may order a follow-up gastroscopy to assess the state of the lining.

Patients with chronic forms are advised to have a preventive check-up at least once a year. Most people return to their usual routine within a few days of finishing the course.

The MediUkraine team supports you through the whole cycle, from the first diagnosis to the follow-up visit after recovery, and takes care of booking and agreeing dates.

How treatment affects the digestive system

Gastritis is treated according to a plan that the gastroenterologist draws up after examination: it combines accurate diagnosis, a personalised approach and prevention of relapse. Patients with acute and chronic forms, erosions, raised acidity or Helicobacter pylori infection receive care. The gastroenterologists' qualifications and well-equipped endoscopy rooms make it possible to manage even long-standing cases.

Treatment always starts with an examination: gastroscopy, laboratory tests and a Helicobacter pylori test. It shows the cause of the inflammation and how much the lining is affected. If needed, a biopsy is taken to confirm the diagnosis and rule out cancer.

Timely treatment of gastritis reduces the risk of peptic ulcer disease and stomach bleeding and restores normal digestion. The MediUkraine team arranges treatment at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, where care follows international standards with a gastroenterologist's supervision at every stage.

Why is gastritis treatment more affordable in Ukraine?

When planning treatment for digestive diseases, patients compare prices in different countries. In Ukraine gastritis treatment costs noticeably less than at clinics in Europe or Turkey, with comparable quality: you receive a consultation with a gastroenterologist, diagnostics, a course of medication and follow-up at one medical centre.

There are several reasons. First, the cost of providing medical services — premises, utilities, medicines — is lower than in EU countries. Second, competition between private clinics leads to transparent packages with no hidden charges. Third, the outpatient format: most patients are treated at home, so costs do not build up through days in hospital.

A lower price does not mean simplified medicine. Care in Ukraine is reliable: clinics follow international sterility standards and monitor the quality of medicines, and the course is managed by an experienced gastroenterologist. On request, the clinic shows its Ministry of Health licence for medical practice, the tests included before the course and the dates of follow-up visits after it.

The main reasons for the affordable cost of gastritis treatment in Ukraine:
• lower costs of medicines and clinical services;
• transparent prices with no hidden charges;
• the option of outpatient treatment without a hospital stay.

Is treatment safe, and how to choose a clinic

Private clinics in Ukraine operate under a Ministry of Health licence for medical practice: sterility control and proven quality of medicines and equipment. Each stage, from diagnosis to recovery, is managed by a gastroenterologist, and only they adjust the regimen.

During the course the doctor monitors the state of the lining, your body's response and how you tolerate the prescribed medicines. Only certified medicines, diet therapy, probiotics and eradication regimens against Helicobacter pylori are used. Side effects are monitored closely, and if they occur, the dose or the medicine is changed without interrupting treatment.

Treatment is outpatient or involves short-term observation at the clinic. Patients with chronic forms receive a separate monitoring plan: preventive check-ups, dietary adjustments and maintenance treatment. This reduces the likelihood of relapse and keeps the digestive tract working steadily.

When choosing a reliable medical centre, look at the gastroenterologists' experience, patient reviews, transparent prices and whether the doctor explains the plan in plain language. The MediUkraine team arranges treatment at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, where gastritis is treated according to international medical protocols, and supports you until the follow-up visit.
