Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
Ultrasound in pregnancy works on the principle of echolocation: the probe sends out high-frequency sound waves, tissues of different density reflect them differently, and the machine turns the echoes into a real-time image. So the doctor sees not a still picture but movement: the heartbeat, the baby's movements and position in the uterus.
Three routine screening scans are recommended during pregnancy: at 11–14 weeks, markers of chromosomal abnormalities are assessed; at 18–22 weeks, the baby's anatomy is examined in detail; at 28–32 weeks, growth is monitored. If needed, the doctor orders additional scans to clarify a diagnosis or check the baby's condition over time.
Ultrasound shows congenital defects, the amount of amniotic fluid and the condition of the placenta and umbilical cord. The scan takes 20–30 minutes, involves no needles or anaesthesia and is considered safe for both mother and baby.
Through MediUkraine you can book a pregnancy ultrasound at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, choosing a convenient time and a specialist.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Two-dimensional ultrasound (2D) remains the standard for prenatal screening in Ukraine. It is used to assess the baby's development, take biometric measurements, determine the number of babies and detect anatomical abnormalities. The scan is performed abdominally (through the front of the abdomen) or transvaginally, mostly in early pregnancy. Specialists at the partner clinic have experience in comprehensive assessment of fetal development and the placenta.
Three- and four-dimensional ultrasound (3D/4D) allows a more detailed look at the shape of the baby's organs and anatomical structures. 3D reconstruction is especially useful when a congenital defect is suspected. 4D shows the baby's movements and organ function in real time, which adds diagnostic information and gives parents a clear picture of the baby.
Doppler ultrasound assesses blood flow in the umbilical arteries, the uterine arteries and the baby's brain. It is essential for diagnosing fetal growth restriction, pre-eclampsia and placental insufficiency. Through MediUkraine you can book sonographers who specialise in blood flow assessment in pregnancy.
Follow-up after an ultrasound scan is part of comprehensive pregnancy care. The procedure itself is non-invasive and needs no recovery, so what matters is what to do with the results. Show the report to the obstetrician-gynaecologist who is managing your pregnancy: they compare the figures with previous scans and adjust the monitoring plan.
If the scan shows signs of a problem or something needs clarifying, the doctor orders a repeat scan after a set interval. MediUkraine takes care of booking the next procedures and coordinating with the specialists. Also follow the advice on lifestyle, diet and physical activity that the doctor gives based on the scan.
If the scan has revealed complications, a pregnant woman may also need emotional support: tell your doctor, so that they can refer you to the right specialist. The date of the next routine screening is usually agreed at the appointment.
Ultrasound waves with a frequency of 2–18 MHz pass through tissues without damaging them, and prenatal diagnosis is based on this. The sonographer moves the probe over the pregnant woman's abdomen or inserts it transvaginally, and an image of the uterus, placenta and baby appears on the monitor.
During the scan, the specialist measures the baby's biometric parameters, such as femur length, head circumference and abdominal diameter, assesses the reproductive organs and looks for possible developmental defects and markers of chromosomal abnormalities. Screening scans are performed at 11–14, 18–24 and 30–34 weeks: they are needed for early detection of problems and monitoring of the pregnancy.
Through MediUkraine you can book sonographers at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod at any stage of pregnancy, from the first visit to monitoring before birth.
Ultrasound in pregnancy is the basic method of monitoring the baby's development, and in Ukraine it is performed to established standards at much lower prices than at European and American clinics. While a screening scan in Western countries costs from EUR 200–400, in Ukraine it costs considerably less (see the table above), so prenatal diagnosis remains affordable for most families.
The main reason for the difference is the lower running costs of Ukrainian clinics. Clinics employ trained sonographers and do not add intermediary mark-ups to the price. MediUkraine coordinates booking at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and sends you an itemised estimate in advance: the type of screening, Doppler, the consultation on the results, the number of days in the country and the dates of the next scans. Items whose scope only becomes clear after the in-person examination are marked separately in the estimate, and the clinic notifies you in advance of any price change.
Obstetrician-gynaecologists and sonographers regularly update their qualifications in line with current protocols. This increases the chance that a problem will be spotted early, without paying more for a scan at a clinic abroad.
Ultrasound involves no ionising radiation: it is based on sound waves, so the method is used at any stage of pregnancy. The scan shows potential complications, and the doctor uses it to assess the baby's development and plan the further management of the pregnancy.
The equipment is regularly calibrated and serviced in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and the specialists are qualified in obstetrics and ultrasound, which directly affects how accurately the results are interpreted.
Through MediUkraine you can find out about the indications for the scan, see the prices and choose a convenient time for your visit. Before booking, it is worth checking three things: the clinic's licence, the doctor's qualifications and the class of the ultrasound machine.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine

Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
An ultrasound scan in pregnancy is a diagnostic method that lets the doctor assess the baby's development, the condition of the placenta, the amount of amniotic fluid and the overall course of the pregnancy. The method is based on sound waves, not radiation, and is considered safe for both mother and baby.
The cost depends on the type of scan (standard, 3D or 4D). Indicative prices in USD for each trimester are shown in the table on this page. The clinic may offer packages of several scans at different stages of pregnancy.
For most pregnancy scans, no special preparation is needed. In early pregnancy you may be advised not to empty your bladder, as this gives a better view; in later pregnancy the scan is performed abdominally, through the abdomen.
After each scan, the doctor explains the results: the baby's growth, weight, heartbeat and position. If needed, they order a repeat scan or a consultation with a specialist.
There are three routine scans: in the first trimester, to date the pregnancy and assess markers of chromosomal abnormalities; in the second, to assess the development of the organs; in the third, to monitor the baby's growth and position before birth. A 3D or 4D scan can also be done to get a more detailed image of the baby.
On average 15–30 minutes. During this time the doctor carries out the examination, records the measurements and saves the images.
Ultrasound itself does not treat anything: it is a diagnostic procedure. Its role is imaging: the doctor assesses the baby's development, spots deviations, takes the necessary measurements and monitors the placenta and amniotic fluid. If the scan reveals a problem, it becomes the basis for treatment, whether medication, other conservative measures or, if necessary, surgery.
At the same time, it is ultrasound that reveals pregnancy complications in time, so the doctor can act before they become dangerous. Three routine screening scans, in the first, second and third trimesters, are the gold standard of prenatal care. Through MediUkraine you can book specialists for pregnancy scans at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, which follows established diagnostic protocols.
