Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
The eardrum transmits sound vibrations from the ear canal to the ossicles and at the same time separates the middle ear from the outside environment. When a hole appears in it, some of the sound energy is lost, and the middle ear cavity remains open to water and microbes. That is why the defect is closed surgically: eardrum reconstruction is either myringoplasty (repair of the eardrum itself) or tympanoplasty, in which the chain of ossicles is also restored.
The operation is performed under a microscope or with endoscopic technique. The surgeon uses autologous material (cartilage from the outer ear or fascia) or a biocompatible implant. The choice depends on the size of the perforation, its location and the condition of the middle ear.
The aim of treatment is to restore sound conduction and close off the route for chronic middle ear inflammation. After the defect has been closed successfully, infectious complications occur less often and hearing improves. The success rate is 80–95%, depending on the clinical situation.
MediUkraine will arrange a consultation with an ENT specialist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, who will assess the defect and advise where and how to have the operation.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Myringoplasty is the basic method of repairing the eardrum. It is performed under a microscope or with an endoscope: the surgeon reaches the ear cavity through the ear canal or through an incision behind the ear. A graft, most often the patient's own cartilage or fascia, is placed over the defect, and the eardrum tissue regenerates on it. The procedure takes 20–40 minutes under general or local anaesthesia.
The transcanal endoscopic technique is a minimally invasive option in which all instruments are inserted through the ear canal without additional incisions. Visualisation is better and tissues are less traumatised, so healing is faster. The endoscope gives the surgeon a detailed view of the field and precise positioning of the graft.
The method is chosen according to the size and location of the defect, the condition of the ossicles and your individual characteristics. The success rate of the operations is 85–95%. On the MediUkraine portal you can request a consultation with an ENT specialist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, who will advise where and how to have this surgery.
Hearing after surgery returns gradually. On the first day the ear feels blocked; this decreases over a week. Hearing recovers fully in 2–4 weeks, when the graft has taken and is firmly in place in the tympanic cavity.
For the first 7–10 days the main thing is to keep water and infection out of the ear canal. When washing, the ear is covered with an earplug or a cotton wool ball soaked in petroleum jelly. Light everyday activity is allowed, but avoid exercise, bending forward and situations with sudden changes in atmospheric pressure.
In the late rehabilitation period (2–4 weeks) the graft becomes stronger and the restrictions are gradually lifted. At the follow-up appointment the ENT specialist assesses healing and orders audiometry, which shows how much sound conduction has improved. MediUkraine coordinates the whole recovery period and stays in touch with the clinic that manages your care.
A perforated eardrum appears after ear injury, chronic inflammation or past infections. The operation has three goals: to restore hearing, to stop recurrent ear infections and to keep moisture out of the middle ear.
The procedure is performed under local or general anaesthesia, with an operating microscope or an endoscope. The surgeon transfers a small piece of tissue, most often cartilage or perichondrium from the outer ear, to the defect and fixes it under the remnants of the eardrum so that the edges heal naturally.

Myringoplasty closes a hole in the eardrum that causes hearing loss and the risk of recurrent middle ear infections. In Ukraine this procedure costs noticeably less than at Western European clinics, with the same level of ENT training.
The difference in price is explained by lower running costs, staff pay and the cost of anaesthesia, without a surcharge for the clinic's prestige.

Safety and quality of treatment are the main criteria for clinics to be listed on the MediUkraine platform. Any clinic that offers eardrum reconstruction must hold a licence from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and its specialists are trained in microscopic and endoscopic ear surgery.
Myringoplasty and tympanoplasty are performed under asepsis protocols using microscopes and endoscopes with sterile instruments. Each operation is accompanied by a pre-operative examination and post-operative monitoring.
MediUkraine checks the clinic's documents, monitors compliance with sanitary standards and coordinates treatment at every stage. This selection reduces the risks for you: you can see the criteria by which the clinic was chosen, and supporting documents can be requested before you book the operation.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is a microsurgical operation that closes a hole in the eardrum after otitis media, injury or chronic inflammation. The defect is covered with the patient's own tissue, which improves hearing and reduces the risk of recurrent middle ear infections.
The first step is an ENT specialist consultation at the partner clinic, from USD 20. The doctor gives the treatment plan and its cost after the examination: they depend on the complexity of the case, the scope of diagnostics and whether the ossicles need to be repaired. MediUkraine will help you get a cost estimate before you travel.
Citizens of most European countries can enter Ukraine for a short stay without complicated visa procedures. The specific requirements depend on your citizenship, so it is worth checking them in advance.
The reasons for surgery are a perforated eardrum, reduced hearing or frequent middle ear infections. The ENT specialist makes the final decision after an examination and audiometry.
Before the procedure, audiometry, tympanometry and an endoscopic examination of the ear are done, and if needed a CT scan of the temporal bone to assess the condition of the middle ear.
The main healing takes 2–4 weeks, and hearing takes longer to stabilise. The doctor sets your routine, restrictions on water and exertion, and the date of the follow-up audiometry individually.
The procedure is local: it concerns the middle ear and hearing and does not affect other body systems. If you follow the advice on routine and ear hygiene, it is well tolerated.
