Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
A polyp is a growth of the mucosa into the lumen of an organ. Some of these growths enlarge over the years and can become malignant, so they are removed even when there are no symptoms. The endoscopist works with an instrument passed through the channel of the endoscope and sees the working field magnified on the screen, so only the altered area of mucosa is removed and healthy tissue is spared.
The extent of the procedure depends on the size, location and number of polyps: from snare polypectomy to endoscopic mucosal resection or submucosal dissection. There are no incisions or surgical stitches, so the risk of bleeding and complications is lower than with abdominal surgery. Most procedures are done on an outpatient basis, and you return to your normal routine within 1–2 days.
Pain relief is chosen according to the scope of work, local anaesthesia or brief sedation, so even patients who are particularly sensitive tolerate the procedure calmly. Before starting, the doctor examines the mucosa around the growth, as polyps are often multiple. The removed tissue is sent for histological examination, which clarifies the diagnosis and the nature of the tissue.
Polyps of the stomach and intestine are common, especially after the age of 40. A growth removed in time can no longer become malignant, but new polyps can appear, so after the procedure the doctor sets the date of a follow-up endoscopy straight away; the interval depends on the histology report.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The method is chosen individually, according to the size, number and location of the polyps and your general condition. Modern video endoscopes make it possible to remove even large growths without a surgical incision, with a low risk of complications and a quick recovery. The basic options are polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).
The main option is endoscopic polypectomy: the polyp is cut off with a special snare through which an electric current passes. The current coagulates the vessels at the same time, which helps prevent bleeding. The method is suitable for small growths, and you usually go home on the same day.
Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is used for larger growths or groups of polyps. The mucosa is first lifted with an injection of a special solution, which makes it easier to separate from the deeper layers, and then the abnormal area is cut away. The procedure is done under brief sedation, and the recovery period is short.
A technically more complex technique is endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). It makes it possible to remove large polyps or early-stage tumours in one piece, with a low risk of recurrence. ESD requires special experience from the endoscopist and is performed mainly at specialised centres.
What all three methods have in common: no traumatic surgery is needed, tissue integrity is preserved, and you return to your normal life quickly.
In the first days after the procedure mild abdominal pain, bloating or a feeling of slight discomfort are possible; this is the normal reaction of the mucosa to tissue removal, not a sign of a complication. It heals gradually, but for the first 7–10 days avoid physical overload, heavy food and alcohol.
The length of recovery depends on the scope of work. After removal of small polyps you can return to work after 2–3 days; after larger ones, after 1–2 weeks. The mucosa usually heals fully within a month. The doctor sets the dates of the follow-up check and, if needed, prescribes a diet or additional medicines to support digestion.
During recovery drink enough water, choose light meals, and avoid spicy and fried food and foods that cause wind. Moderate activity helps: short walks get the bowel working normally. It is better to eat smaller portions more often. Swimming pools, the gym and saunas are only allowed with your doctor's approval.
If you develop pain, a fever, bleeding or digestive problems after the procedure, seek medical help immediately for an examination. These symptoms need endoscopic assessment, not waiting at home.
Endoscopic access does not involve the pelvic organs or interfere with hormones, so it does not usually affect reproductive potential. For patients planning a pregnancy or undergoing fertility treatment, this is the main argument for a gentle technique instead of abdominal surgery.
The best method is decided individually. Before the procedure the gastroenterologist or endoscopist may order additional tests: an ultrasound, a hormone profile, tests for infections or inflammatory markers. Based on the results, the doctor chooses a gentler option or sometimes advises postponing the procedure or having preparatory treatment first.
Not all patients need the procedure straight away: with small growths or no symptoms, the doctor may suggest monitoring with periodic checks. This means a repeat endoscopy at an interval set by the specialist, to see whether the growth changes in size. The decision is made after endoscopy, histological analysis and an assessment of your general condition, taking into account any plans for pregnancy.
When planning endoscopic polyp removal, count not only the price of the procedure itself but also the related costs: consultations, diagnostics, anaesthesia, post-operative monitoring and accommodation. In Ukraine the total is lower, because the full cycle of examination and treatment takes place at one centre, without a long hospital stay.
Why are prices lower than in EU countries or Turkey? Mainly because of the lower underlying cost of medical services: rent, consumables, salaries and logistics. In addition, competition between private medical centres makes them offer transparent package offers without hidden charges. And minimally invasive techniques shorten the hospital stay, which also reduces the final amount.
At the same time, the standard of care does not drop: the partner clinic works according to international protocols and provides sterility control, full anaesthetic support and monitoring after the procedure. Endoscopic procedures are performed by experienced doctors with modern equipment, and this is what the result depends on.
▪ lower costs of hospital stay, consumables and rent
▪ transparent package offers without hidden costs
▪ a short recovery period thanks to minimally invasive technologies
It is a routine procedure with a low risk of complications, which the doctor will explain in advance. The partner clinic in Uzhhorod performs endoscopic polyp removal according to international standards, with full anaesthetic support, sterility control and monitoring of your condition during and after the procedure. Modern high-definition video systems reduce the risk of complications and make it possible to remove a polyp without harming healthy tissue.
Ideally, endoscopy and histological analysis are organised through one centre, so diagnosis and treatment take place in one place.
When choosing a clinic, look at the doctor's experience, the number of procedures performed, adherence to international protocols and transparency of service costs. MediUkraine assesses the partner clinic on real patient reviews, quality of communication and how well medical decisions are justified.
If you have a gastroscopy or colonoscopy report describing a polyp, send it to the coordinator: the doctor will assess the scope of the procedure and the timing before you travel to Ukraine.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is a minimally invasive procedure in which the doctor uses an endoscope to remove polyps from the stomach, colon or rectum without incisions. It is performed under sedation or light anaesthesia, and the removed tissue is sent for histology, so precancerous changes are detected in good time.
The procedure costs considerably less in Ukraine than at clinics in Europe: from USD 36. The range depends on the location of the polyp, the complexity of the procedure, the type of anaesthesia and whether histological analysis is needed.
Most citizens of the EU, the UK, Turkey and Israel do not need a visa for a short stay of up to 90 days. Check the current entry rules for your country before you travel. MediUkraine can help you plan the journey, advise on transfers and book your appointment at the clinic.
The procedure is suitable for patients with benign growths found during colonoscopy, gastroscopy or another endoscopic examination. The doctor makes the final decision after analysing the diagnostic results.
The main techniques are snare polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). The choice depends on the size, number and location of the polyps.
You usually return to your normal way of life after 1–2 days. Full healing of the mucosa takes 1–2 weeks; during this time a gentle diet and a follow-up check with the doctor are recommended.
The procedure itself does not usually disrupt the digestive system when performed by an experienced specialist. On the contrary, after the polyps are removed, the bloating and bleeding they caused go away, and the cancer risk from those growths is removed with them.
