Allergy Blood Test in Ukraine

An allergy blood test shows which substances your immune system has produced specific IgE antibodies against. A single venous blood sample can be checked for food, pollen, household, animal and drug allergens, from one substance to a panel of dozens. Unlike skin prick tests, the blood test does not require you to stop antihistamines, and it can be done even during a flare-up or when the skin is affected. That is why the test suits children, pregnant women and patients with chronic conditions. The result is given as numerical values, which the allergist uses to assess the level of sensitisation.

Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.

About the allergy blood test

An allergy blood test looks for immunoglobulin E in the serum, which the immune system produces against a specific irritant protein. One sample can cover a wide range of allergens: food allergens, pollen antigens, house dust, animal dander and other substances. A laboratory test is used when the specific trigger needs to be named, not just a tendency to allergy confirmed.

The test is performed by immunofluorescence or immunoassay on automated analysers. The result is ready within 3–5 working days and is given as a quantitative or semi-quantitative value showing the level of sensitisation. For you, it involves only a venous blood draw, and the procedure has no side effects.

Reasons for testing include atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, food allergy and reactions to occupational allergens. Blood is also tested before planning immunotherapy or when the diagnosis needs clarifying.

Through MediUkraine you can book the test at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, get a consultation with an allergist and receive the results electronically.

Coming to Uzhhorod for treatment: what to expect

Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.

Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.

Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.

Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.

Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Laboratory methods and standards

Ukrainian laboratories use equipment for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the ImmunoCAP method, which can detect specific IgE antibodies to more than 500 allergens.
When you choose allergy testing through MediUkraine, you pay considerably less than at Western European clinics for the same scope of tests.
Experienced Ukrainian allergists draw up a treatment plan based on the results.

How to prepare for the blood test

  1. The accuracy of the result depends on the state you are in when you arrive at the laboratory: a recent illness can shift immunoglobulin E levels.
  2. Unlike skin prick tests, the blood test does not require you to stop antihistamines.
  3. Do not eat for 2–3 hours immediately before the blood draw.
  4. Through MediUkraine you can book allergy testing at the partner clinic at a time that suits you.

Types of specific IgE tests

Several formats are available, from a targeted test for a single allergen to screening for a whole group of substances. MediUkraine helps you arrange the type of test you need.

The main method is fluorescent enzyme immunoassay (ImmunoCAP), which measures specific IgE levels to individual allergens. One test can check dozens of substances: pollen allergens, animal proteins, food components, house dust mites and mould. The method is highly sensitive and specific, and results are prepared quickly.

The AllergyScreen multiple test is suitable when there is no hypothesis about a specific allergen and screening is needed. It covers about 20 common causes of allergy at once, which saves time and money at the initial diagnosis.

For some patients there are specific IgE panels designed for occupational or food allergies. MediUkraine arranges the testing option that suits your clinical situation and needs.

Advantages of laboratory allergy testing

  • Ukrainian laboratories have modern equipment that detects specific immunoglobulin E to a wide range of allergens, from household and food allergens to pollen and occupational ones.
  • Allergy testing in Ukraine costs significantly less than at European clinics, without affecting the accuracy of the results.
  • Knowing the allergen is the basis for a treatment plan and for preventing complications, so do not delay testing if reactions keep recurring.

What to do after the blood draw

The accuracy of the results is set before you visit the laboratory, so follow the preparation advice you receive when booking.

After the blood draw you can return to your normal activities without restrictions. Just keep an eye on the puncture site for a few hours: a small bruise or swelling may appear, which disappears within 1–2 days. Avoid intensive physical exertion on the day of the test.

Results are ready within 5–7 working days. When you book through MediUkraine, you receive a detailed consultation on interpreting the results and the next steps in treatment. MediUkraine connects you with the partner clinic's laboratory, where testing and patient support follow defined protocols.

How the blood draw is done and what the result shows

The result of an allergy blood test is a list of substances against which your body has produced class E immunoglobulins, with the level of reaction for each. The plan for treating and preventing allergic disease is built on this list.

The procedure is simple: a doctor or nurse collects a small amount of venous blood into a sterile tube. The test is usually done on an empty stomach and needs no special preparation. A wide range of allergens can be checked: food (milk, eggs, peanuts, seafood), household (dust mites, animal dander), epidermal and inhaled (plant pollen, mould). Results are ready within 5–7 working days.

Reasons to have the test include suspected allergy, recurrent allergic reactions, asthma and allergic dermatitis. Based on the list of allergens found, the doctor tells you what to avoid and chooses individual treatment.

Why is an allergy blood test more affordable in Ukraine?

The price difference is explained by the cost of running laboratories, not by the level of equipment

In Germany and Switzerland, an allergy panel costs EUR 150–300, while in Ukraine the same test costs considerably less, depending on the number of substances tested. This makes testing more affordable, especially if repeat tests are needed.

In addition, you do not have to wait long or see other specialists first, as is common in European countries. MediUkraine quickly arranges a laboratory with the range of tests you need, which significantly shortens the time to diagnosis. MediUkraine's consultants suggest the right package of tests so that you do not pay for unnecessary ones.

Modern equipment and qualified staff provide results of a quality comparable to international standards, while saving a significant part of your budget compared with testing abroad.

Procedure safety and laboratory quality control

Blood sampling for allergy testing in Ukraine is regulated by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Certified sterile materials and containers are used for the blood draw to prevent contamination of samples. The partner clinic's laboratory disinfects and sterilises all equipment in line with Ukrainian standards and sanitary rules. Every patient receives advice on preparation, which reduces the risk of errors and improves the reliability of the results.

Staff hold the appropriate professional certification, and the equipment is regularly calibrated and checked. Blood samples are stored at a controlled temperature to keep them suitable until testing.

MediUkraine arranges the type of test you need. All results come with a detailed explanation of the values and recommendations for further tests if allergic sensitisation is found.

Frequently asked questions

What is an allergy blood test?

It is a laboratory test that shows which substances your body has produced specific IgE antibodies against. Their level rises after contact with an allergen, so the result shows the specific triggers. The procedure is just a venous blood draw and involves no contact with the irritant, so it is suitable even for children and pregnant women.

How much does an allergy blood test cost in Ukraine?

The price depends on the number of allergens tested and the type of panel (food, pollen, household, animal); current prices are shown in the table above. Combined packages are available, which are better value and give results faster.

When should I see a doctor?

It is worth having the test if you have frequent rashes, itching, a blocked nose, swelling, difficulty breathing, a chronic cough, watery eyes or digestive problems. The test is also indicated for people with seasonal symptoms or a suspected allergy to foods or medicines.

How do I prepare for an allergy blood test?

Blood is taken on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning. For 2–3 days before the visit, avoid fatty food, alcohol and strenuous exercise. You do not need to stop antihistamines for the blood test; do not stop any medicine without your doctor's advice.

Can the test be done during pregnancy or alongside other conditions?

Yes, the test is safe for pregnant women and people with chronic conditions. As it involves no contact with allergens, there will be no reaction to the test itself. It is the main diagnostic option when skin prick tests are contraindicated.

How long does recovery take and when will the results be ready?

There is no recovery period after an allergy blood test. A blood draw requires no rehabilitation: immediately afterwards you can return to your normal activities, work, exercise and usual routine without any restrictions.

The only wait is for the result. Depending on the type of test, the report is usually ready within 3–7 working days; urgent processing (1–2 days) may be available for an additional fee. Once you have the results, see an allergist or immunologist, who will interpret the values and draw up an individual treatment plan. MediUkraine will help you arrange testing with the turnaround time you need.

Can allergy be cured completely?

Complete recovery is far from possible in every case. The result depends on the type of allergen, your immune system and how long you have been sensitised. Most often, the reaction can be eliminated for good with allergy to household and some food allergens, if contact with them can be completely avoided. With multiple allergies and atopic diseases, the goal is rather to control symptoms.

Medicine offers allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), which gives lasting remission in 60–80% of patients. An IgE blood test is the first step, naming the specific triggers. Based on the results, the doctor draws up an individual treatment plan, which may include dietary restrictions, medication or immunotherapy. MediUkraine will help you find an allergist and arrange testing and further treatment in Ukraine.
