Capsule Endoscopy and Other Endoscopic Examinations in Ukraine

Capsule endoscopy is an examination in which, instead of having a tube inserted, you swallow a video capsule with a camera. Other endoscopic procedures are listed alongside it: biopsy, polyp removal, ERCP, bronchoscopy and control of bleeding. If you already have an endoscopy report, this section offers an online review of the results.

Where to start

Patients rarely search for the name of a procedure — they search for what is bothering them day to day. Choose the description closest to your situation.

What determines the method and the price

What affects the scope of the procedure and the cost
Examination or procedure — Diagnosis and treatment are priced differently. Endoscopic gastric biopsy starts from USD 58, endoscopic removal of a stomach polyp from USD 36, and removal of a colon polyp from USD 36.
Whether anaesthesia is needed — Capsule endoscopy is performed without anaesthesia. Bronchoscopy is done under local or general anaesthesia, and ERCP under general anaesthesia or sedation supervised by an anaesthetist; this affects both the preparation and the cost.
How long the procedure takes — The range is wide: bronchoscopy takes from 20 to 60 minutes, ERCP 40–90 minutes, and capsule endoscopy records for 6–8 hours. This determines how much time to set aside for the day of the examination.
How much is done in one procedure — When there is more than one polyp, the scope changes: colonoscopy with removal of multiple polyps starts from USD 138.
Urgency — Some services in this section are emergencies: removal of a foreign body from the oesophagus (from USD 156). Such cases are not planned in advance, and price is not what you compare them on.

Questions and answers

If the capsule finds a polyp, will it be removed straight away?
No. The capsule only takes images and has no instruments for intervention, so removal is a separate procedure: endoscopic removal of a stomach polyp starts from USD 36, a colon polyp from USD 36, and colonoscopy with removal of multiple polyps from USD 138. An endoscopic biopsy is also performed separately, from USD 58.
Is anaesthesia needed, and does it hurt?
Capsule endoscopy is performed without anaesthesia — you swallow the capsule like a tablet. Other procedures in this section are done under local anaesthesia, sedation or general anaesthesia: bronchoscopy under local or general anaesthesia, ERCP under general anaesthesia or sedation supervised by an anaesthetist.
How is capsule endoscopy different from a standard gastroscopy?
During a gastroscopy, the doctor controls the scope and can take a biopsy or perform a procedure straight away. The capsule only takes images — it passes through the digestive tract on its own and reaches parts of the small intestine that a standard scope cannot examine. That is why one examination is sometimes ordered after the other rather than instead of it.
I am abroad. Can I show my results to a doctor without travelling?
Yes. An online consultation with an endoscopist starts from USD 18. You send your images and reports in advance.
How long does it take to get capsule endoscopy results?
The recording itself takes 6–8 hours, after which the doctor reviews it and prepares a report. The timing depends on the amount of material, so it is given on site — we do not promise a fixed date.
