| Needle aspiration of the cyst | from USD 41 | from USD 1,200 | from USD 1,000 |
| Surgical removal of the cyst | from USD 242 | from USD 2,000 | from USD 1,800 |
Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
A cyst forms when a milk duct becomes blocked and fluid builds up in the resulting cavity; this is usually triggered by hormonal fluctuations. Such cavities are found in women of all ages, so the approach depends not on the finding itself but on its characteristics: size, wall thickness, contents and location. The doctor assesses these on ultrasound, mammography or MRI, and they determine whether draining the fluid will be enough or whether the capsule must be removed along with its contents.
Breast-conserving cyst removal means the surgeon works precisely: healthy tissue is not cut away, and in most cases access is limited to a puncture under ultrasound guidance. With no incision, the risk of complications and visible scarring is lower, and the breast keeps its natural shape. Most women return to normal life within a few days.
During the procedure the doctor removes the cyst itself or its contents without injuring the surrounding tissue. With a vacuum-assisted technique, everything is done as an outpatient, without admission, which matters for women who cannot take a whole week off work or family life.
It is best not to delay: a growing cyst can become inflamed or infected, and after incomplete aspiration fluid often builds up again. That is why breast specialists advise coming for an examination as soon as the lump changes size or starts to hurt, and bringing a recent ultrasound report to the consultation.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The method is chosen for the specific case, taking into account the size and structure of the lump, its location, the symptoms and the test results. There are three basic approaches: needle drainage, vacuum-assisted excision and sectoral resection. The final decision is made on the basis of ultrasound, mammography or biopsy, and the aim in all three cases is the same: to remove the cyst while affecting the breast tissue as little as possible.
In Ukraine, aspiration is performed most often: the contents of the cavity are drawn out through a fine needle under ultrasound guidance. The procedure takes 15–30 minutes, involves no incisions and no hospital stay, and the next day you can return to your usual activities.
When the walls of the cyst are thick or fluid builds up again after aspiration, vacuum-assisted excision is used. It removes the capsule completely, leaving barely any scar and no deformity of the breast, is performed under local anaesthetic, and recovery takes a few days.
If the lump is large or atypical cells are suspected, sectoral resection is prescribed: a section of tissue is excised together with the cyst. The operation is performed under general or local anaesthesia, preserving the natural shape of the breast. Its added value is that the removed tissue goes straight for histology, so the diagnosis is confirmed in the laboratory rather than from an image.
In the first days you may have mild discomfort or slight swelling in the treated area; this is an expected tissue reaction that passes gradually. You return to your usual activities gradually too, but avoid physical strain and sudden movements for the first 1–2 weeks. Drive or do active work with your arms only once your doctor allows it.
The pace of recovery depends on the extent of the procedure. After aspiration or vacuum-assisted excision you are back to your usual routine the next day, and after sectoral resection within 5–7 days. If your work involves physical effort, plan for this period in advance. The breast specialist clears you for full activity at the follow-up appointment.
Light movement helps: short walks improve circulation and speed up tissue healing. At the same time, for the first weeks avoid overheating, such as hot baths, swimming pools and saunas, and keep the treated area clean. Tight underwear and underwired bras are best avoided for now too. If you develop pain, a raised temperature or discharge from the wound, contact the clinic immediately.
Do not miss follow-up appointments with the breast specialist: at the ultrasound check-up the doctor sees how the tissue is healing and notices in time whether the cavity is refilling.
If you are planning a pregnancy or will breastfeed in the future, it is important not only to remove the lump but also to keep the gland working. This is exactly why needle drainage, vacuum-assisted excision and sectoral resection are performed under ultrasound guidance: the doctor sees the edges of the cavity and does not go beyond them, so the ducts and the glandular tissue around remain intact and the breast keeps its natural contours.
The method is chosen after ultrasound, according to the size, density and structure of the cyst. If the features are typically benign, aspiration or vacuum-assisted excision is usually chosen. If atypia is suspected or fluid builds up again, sectoral resection is recommended: the area with the lump is excised and sent for histology.
Not everyone needs an operation, and not straight away. A small cyst that causes no symptoms can be monitored with regular ultrasound and checks of hormone levels. The decision is made together with you, taking into account your results and reproductive plans.
When planning breast cyst removal, count not the price of the procedure alone but the whole total: consultations, tests, anaesthesia, aftercare and follow-up appointments. In Ukraine this total is lower, because most clinics cover the whole cycle, from diagnosis to recovery, in one centre, with no separate costs for admission or a long stay.
There are several reasons. The cost of providing medical services (rent, consumables, staff) is considerably lower here than in the EU or Turkey. Competition between private clinics encourages them to show the full package with no hidden charges. And minimally invasive techniques, aspiration and vacuum-assisted excision, remove the hospital stay from the estimate: it is either not needed at all or lasts a few hours.
At the same time, the lower price does not come at the expense of safety: private clinics maintain sterility, use modern anaesthesia and monitor you after the procedure. The operations are performed by breast specialists and surgical oncologists who specialise in breast-conserving techniques, and experience in a narrow field improves precision and lowers the complication rate.
In most cases the risks are low. Private clinics in Ukraine provide full anaesthetic care, sterility and monitoring during and after the operation. The cyst is removed under ultrasound guidance with gentle techniques: aspiration, vacuum-assisted excision or sectoral resection. Usually it is an outpatient procedure: no hospital stay is needed, and recovery is quick and without significant pain.
The equipment in most centres allows diagnosis, the procedure and the post-operative check-up to take place in one place, so you do not have to travel between a laboratory, an ultrasound room and an operating theatre.
When choosing a facility, look at the breast specialist's experience and the number of procedures they have performed, the equipment in the operating theatre and how transparent the costs are. Trustworthy ratings of medical facilities are based on genuine patient reviews, licences, the quality of communication and proven results.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
A breast cyst is a hollow lump filled with fluid. It develops because of hormonal changes or a blocked milk duct. Most cysts are benign but need monitoring by a breast specialist.
The price depends on the size of the cyst, the type of procedure (aspiration, vacuum-assisted excision or surgical removal) and the level of the clinic. The starting prices are shown in the table above, and the exact amount is given after an ultrasound.
Patients from most European countries, Israel and the Middle East do not need a visa for a short medical trip. Entry rules depend on your citizenship, so check them before you travel.
This is decided by a breast specialist after an ultrasound. Removal is recommended if the cyst grows, hurts or becomes firmer, or if atypia is suspected.
The main ones are ultrasound-guided needle aspiration, vacuum-assisted excision and sectoral resection. The choice depends on the diameter, structure and location of the cyst.
After aspiration, a few hours; after vacuum-assisted or surgical removal, 1–3 days. Significant pain is unusual, and minimally invasive techniques usually leave no noticeable scars.
Usually not, if the procedure is performed gently and the milk ducts are not damaged. This is exactly why doctors work under ultrasound guidance and preserve the structure of the gland.
