Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
A benign breast lump is an overgrowth of glandular, connective or fatty tissue that does not grow into neighbouring structures and does not spread. That is why the surgeon removes the lump, not the breast: the boundary between the lump and healthy tissue is clear and easy to see on ultrasound. A fibroadenoma is shelled out within its capsule, a fluid-filled cyst is aspirated, and an intraductal papilloma is removed together with a section of the duct.
The approach is chosen individually based on ultrasound, mammography or MRI, from vacuum-assisted excision to sectoral resection or endoscopic removal. Imaging during the procedure shows the surgeon the edges of the lump, so they work only within the affected area: the breast is not deformed, blood loss is minimal, and the hospital stay is reduced to one day. Most women return to their usual routine within 1–2 weeks.
During the operation the surgeon excises or aspirates the lump and sends the tissue for histology, which confirms that it is benign. If needed, cosmetic correction is performed to preserve the natural shape of the breast; this is possible even when the lump is large.
Fibroadenomas and cysts occur in women of all ages. Timely diagnosis and removal reduce the risk of complications and remove doubt about the nature of the lump. The breast specialist assesses the lump by its size, density and how it changes over time, and these parameters decide whether to operate or monitor.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The approach is chosen according to the size, location and structure of the lump and the test results. The main options are vacuum-assisted excision, sectoral resection, enucleation (shelling out) and endoscopic removal. The choice depends on the type of lump, whether a fibroadenoma, cyst or intraductal papilloma, and on your cosmetic goals.
In Ukraine breast-conserving procedures are performed most often: the surgeon removes the tumour itself with a minimum of surrounding tissue, so the shape of the breast is preserved and recovery is faster. If the lump is large or lies close to the skin or nipple, a sectoral resection with plastic correction is performed.
For small lumps, minimally invasive vacuum-assisted excision is increasingly used: no hospital stay is needed, and the mark on the skin is barely visible. The procedure takes up to an hour, and by the next day you can return to your usual activities.
If there is a risk of cell atypia or a suspicion of malignancy, the tissue is always sent for histology. Every procedure is carried out with a sterility protocol and monitoring of your condition at each stage.
The post-operative period usually passes easily and without complications. In the first days you may feel tightness or tenderness around the incision; this is a normal tissue reaction. Avoid physical strain and sudden arm movements for 1–2 weeks, especially if the operation was under general anaesthesia. You can drive and return to work after the stitches are removed, or earlier if your doctor advises.
The length of recovery depends on the extent of the operation. After vacuum-assisted removal or enucleation you return to your usual routine within a few days. After sectoral resection, complete healing takes 1–2 weeks. The doctor checks the wound at follow-up appointments and prescribes preventive antibiotics or painkillers if needed.
For faster healing: no saunas, hot baths or direct sunlight, supportive underwear that does not compress the breast, enough water, a balanced diet and less coffee and alcohol.
If you develop pain, swelling, a raised temperature or discharge from the wound, see a doctor immediately. The final cosmetic result is assessed after a few months, once the scar has faded.
If you are planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, the method of the procedure matters in its own right: it should not affect the function of the gland or its sensitivity. Minimally invasive options, vacuum-assisted excision and enucleation, are performed without damaging the ducts, so breastfeeding usually remains possible later. Tell the breast specialist about these plans at the first consultation.
The plan for the operation is always individual. Before the procedure the doctor may order a breast ultrasound or MRI, check your hormone levels and, if needed, order additional tests. With large or recurrent tumours, plastic correction to restore symmetry and appearance is discussed. If a pregnancy is planned in the near future, the operation is sometimes postponed or performed in the gentlest possible way.
Not every benign lump needs to be removed immediately. If its size is stable and there are no symptoms, monitoring with regular ultrasound is possible. The decision to operate is made together with the breast specialist, taking into account your reproductive plans, age and health.
When planning the operation, count not only the price of the procedure itself but also the related costs: consultations, diagnostics, accommodation, medicines and post-operative care. In Ukraine comprehensive treatment works out cheaper, because all stages, from examination to surgery and follow-up, take place in one medical centre, and the hospital stay does not exceed one day.
Why are prices lower than in the EU or Turkey? Mainly because of the lower cost of medical services: salaries, rent and consumables cost considerably less. In addition, strong competition between private clinics leads to transparent package offers with no hidden costs. And minimally invasive techniques, vacuum-assisted excision and enucleation, keep the hospital stay to a minimum, which directly reduces the total.
At the same time, the lower price does not come at the expense of safety: private clinics follow strict sterility standards, use modern equipment and provide full post-operative follow-up. Breast specialists perform these operations every day, so the course of the procedure and recovery is predictable.
Private clinics in Ukraine provide full anaesthetic care, strict infection control and post-operative monitoring. Removal of fibroadenomas, cysts or lipomas is a routine operation with a short hospital stay and a predictable recovery.
Most medical centres have equipment for accurate diagnosis (ultrasound, mammography, biopsy) and breast surgeons with oncology training on staff, so examination and treatment take place in one place.
When choosing a clinic, look at the number of procedures performed, the surgeon's qualifications, patient reviews, adherence to sterility protocols and transparency of cost. Safety here comes down to specific things: appropriate equipment, a clearly defined extent of surgery and monitoring of your condition from diagnosis to recovery.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
A benign breast tumour is a growth without cancer cells that does not grow into neighbouring tissue and does not spread. Most often these are fibroadenomas, cysts or lipomas. They can cause discomfort, tenderness or breast asymmetry, and such lumps are often removed because of the small risk that they may change.
The operation in Ukraine starts from USD 242, depending on the size of the lump, the removal method (vacuum-assisted excision, sectoral resection, enucleation), the anaesthesia and the length of the hospital stay. The price may include diagnostics (ultrasound, mammography, biopsy) and post-operative follow-up, so check this point before the operation.
In most cases, no. The lump is removed as an outpatient or with a stay of up to one day. If you feel well, you go home on the day of the operation.
Surgery is recommended if the lump grows, changes its structure, is painful or causes a cosmetic defect. It is also indicated when atypia is suspected or when biopsy results cannot fully rule out cancer. The final decision is made by a breast specialist after examination.
There are several minimally invasive surgical options:
– Vacuum-assisted excision: through a small puncture under ultrasound guidance, leaving barely any scar.
– Enucleation: shelling out the tumour itself, with minimal damage to healthy tissue.
– Sectoral resection: excision of a section of tissue together with the lump, used for larger lumps.
The method is chosen individually, according to the type of tumour and the clinical situation.
Recovery usually takes 7 to 14 days. During this time avoid straining your arms, heat treatments and pressure on the operated area. The skin heals completely in about 2 weeks, which is also when you return to your usual routine.
In most cases, no. Vacuum-assisted removal and enucleation preserve the shape of the breast and the function of the gland. In the hands of a qualified breast surgeon the scar is minimal or barely noticeable, and breastfeeding usually remains possible afterwards. Discuss any risks to breastfeeding with your doctor before the operation.
