Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
Liver metastases are secondary tumours that have reached the liver from a cancer elsewhere. The liver receives blood from the digestive organs through the portal vein, so this is where tumour cells settle in colorectal cancer; less often the source is breast cancer or tumours of other organs. Surgery makes sense when there are few lesions, they are limited in size and they can be removed while leaving enough functioning tissue.
The operation is performed as open surgery or laparoscopically. The surgeon limits the extent of resection to preserve as much healthy liver tissue as possible. Before surgery you have computed tomography, MRI and positron emission tomography: these show the exact location of the lesions and whether they can be operated on.
The outcome depends on the number of lesions, the volume of the remaining liver and your general condition. With careful patient selection, five-year survival reaches 30–50 per cent; such results are seen above all in patients with colorectal cancer, breast cancer and some other tumour types.
MediUkraine arranges an oncologist consultation at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, where the doctor assesses your case and advises where and how the operation can be carried out.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Surgical removal of the lesions is the main method when the tumour's spread in the liver is limited. Either individual segments are resected or a non-anatomical resection is performed, removing the tumour together with a small margin of healthy tissue. For patients with resectable lesions, this approach gives better survival rates than drug therapy alone. MediUkraine will clarify the surgical department's experience with cancer operations on the liver.
Ablation methods, namely radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation and cryoablation, destroy the lesion without removing tissue. These minimally invasive procedures are performed under ultrasound or CT guidance, and recovery is shorter than after open surgery. They are used as a first-line method for small tumours or as an addition after chemotherapy.
Systemic chemotherapy and targeted therapy are needed for widespread metastases or as neoadjuvant preparation before surgery. The drugs slow disease progression and support quality of life. Through MediUkraine you can get a consultation with an oncologist, who will determine the treatment regimen for your case.
The recovery period lasts from 4 to 8 weeks; the exact time depends on the extent of surgery and your general condition. In the first days you are monitored in hospital: wound healing is checked, infections are prevented and pain is controlled.
At the outpatient stage you receive detailed instructions on physical activity, diet and medication. Activity is increased gradually; special exercises and physiotherapy support recovery of liver function and general well-being. Laboratory tests are repeated on schedule: liver function tests are needed to monitor recovery and detect complications in good time.
MediUkraine arranges an oncologist consultation at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, helps you plan treatment and coordinates the stages of rehabilitation. Our team supports you from the first consultation to the end of recovery, and you receive the schedule of follow-up appointments before discharge.
In selected patients, liver metastases still leave room for curative treatment: if the number of lesions is limited and there is enough healthy liver tissue, they are removed completely.
Both traditional open resections and minimally invasive laparoscopic operations are used. Before the procedure you have a comprehensive work-up: contrast-enhanced CT or MRI of the liver, PET-CT to look for additional lesions, and liver function tests. The approach is chosen according to the size, number and location of the metastases and the functional reserve of the liver.
MediUkraine books you in for an oncologist consultation at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, where the doctor advises where and how the metastases can be removed.
The lower price here reflects the cost of resources, not the scope of medical care.
Medical care usually costs less in Ukraine than at clinics in Europe or the USA. Operating costs, staff salaries and diagnostic procedures are considerably cheaper in Ukraine than abroad. As a result, you receive quality treatment without an excessive financial burden.
Procedures are performed both by conventional surgery and by minimally invasive methods such as radiofrequency or microwave ablation. The choice of method depends on the size and location of the tumours. MediUkraine helps you agree a treatment plan, book a consultation with specialists and supports you at every stage.
The pre-operative work-up includes computed tomography, MRI and laboratory tests. The hospital stay lasts 5–7 days on average. The earlier you see a surgical oncologist, the better the chances of successful treatment and long-term remission.
This is a complex cancer operation that requires a highly qualified surgeon and appropriate equipment. Patient safety in Ukraine is ensured by following international treatment protocols and by mandatory pre-operative diagnostics. Before the procedure you have computed tomography, MRI and liver function tests, which show the location of the lesions and the reserve capacity of the liver.
Anaesthesia is provided with continuous monitoring of vital signs.
MediUkraine supports you at every stage of treatment. Post-operative rehabilitation follows current protocols, which reduces the risk of complications and speeds up your return to your normal routine.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is an operation to remove secondary tumours that have spread to the liver from other organs. The surgeon removes the affected areas and leaves enough healthy tissue for the liver to do its job. The aim is to stop tumour growth and achieve long-term remission.
The price depends on the number of metastases, the extent of surgery, the type of anaesthesia and the length of the hospital stay. The first step is an oncologist consultation at the partner clinic, from USD 20. The doctor sets out the treatment plan and its cost after reviewing your scans and test results, and MediUkraine helps you get an estimate before you travel.
See an oncologist or hepatologist if you have pain under the right ribs, loss of appetite, sudden weight loss, nausea or weakness. A consultation is also needed if you have had cancer of another organ in the past: liver metastases may cause no symptoms for a long time.
First you have a comprehensive work-up: CT, MRI or PET-CT of the liver, blood tests and an assessment of liver function. The doctor may advise you to change your diet and avoid alcohol and fatty foods; medicines that affect blood clotting are paused only as agreed with the doctor who prescribed them.
During pregnancy the operation is performed only for life-threatening indications and after a careful risk assessment. For chronic heart or kidney disease or diabetes, the approach is chosen individually, with input from other specialists.
The main indication is single or multiple lesions in the liver that can be removed without a significant loss of liver function. Surgery is recommended if the primary tumour is under control and the disease has not spread to other vital structures.
Without surgery, lesions can rarely be removed completely. For small single metastases, ablation techniques (radiofrequency or microwave) and radiosurgery can be alternatives to resection. Systemic chemotherapy and targeted therapy more often hold the disease back or shrink the lesions before surgery than eliminate them for good, so the question of surgery is reviewed after each course.
The prognosis depends on the number and size of the lesions, the functional reserve of the liver and the type of primary tumour. If the metastases are detected early, can be removed surgically and the primary tumour is under control, the chances of long-term remission or stabilisation of the disease are much higher. The MediUkraine team will arrange an oncologist consultation at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod: the doctor will assess whether surgery is needed in your case, advise where and how to have it and give you a realistic prognosis.
