Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
Epididymo-orchitis combines two processes that occur together: epididymitis, inflammation of the epididymis, and orchitis, inflammation of the testicle itself. The cause may be a bacterial infection, including a sexually transmitted one, a virus or non-infectious inflammation, and the whole treatment plan depends on it. The condition has acute and chronic forms, so the assessment starts with a scrotal ultrasound, laboratory tests and testing the organisms' sensitivity to antibiotics.
The mainstay of treatment is an antibiotic chosen according to the type of organism and the culture results. In the early stages fluoroquinolones, macrolides and cephalosporins are used. At the same time, anti-inflammatory medicines, antioxidants and medicines that improve microcirculation are prescribed. Bed rest and local cooling in the acute phase are an essential part of treatment.
If conservative treatment does not work or purulent complications develop, surgery is considered. The outlook depends on how quickly you see a doctor and whether you follow the treatment plan. MediUkraine will arrange a consultation at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, where an experienced urologist will assess your condition and advise where and how to continue treatment.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Conservative treatment is the main method in the early stages. It includes an antibiotic chosen according to the organisms' sensitivity, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain and swelling, and rest with the scrotum raised. When the cause is bacterial, the course lasts 14–21 days. In the acute period local cooling is used; physiotherapy is added once the acute inflammation has settled.
A combined approach pairs medication with physiotherapy: magnetic therapy, ultrasound and laser therapy. These procedures help the inflammation resolve faster and function recover. In some cases a spermatic cord block is performed to relieve pain.
Surgery is indicated when conservative treatment has not worked, an abscess has formed or there is a risk of sepsis. The operation involves draining the purulent focus and, in complex cases, epididymectomy. If surgery may be needed, a urologist at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod, arranged by MediUkraine, will assess the indications and advise where and how to have it.
Recovery after treatment of epididymo-orchitis is the stage that determines whether the inflammation comes back. How long it takes depends on the form of the condition, the treatment method and your individual characteristics. After an acute episode treated conservatively, recovery takes 2–3 weeks; after surgery, 4–6 weeks.
Restrictions apply during this time: no physical exertion or sports training, no getting too cold or too hot, and usually no sexual activity for 3–4 weeks. Take the antibiotic until the end of the prescribed course: symptoms often go before the course is over, and that is no reason to stop. A follow-up scrotal ultrasound 3–4 weeks after the end of treatment confirms that the inflammation has fully resolved.
MediUkraine arranges follow-up at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod with checks at every stage. If the follow-up examination shows residual changes, we arrange a repeat consultation with the same doctor. The dates of follow-up visits are agreed before the course ends, so you know them in advance.
Epididymo-orchitis is inflammation of the epididymis and the testicle itself, and it is treated comprehensively. Treatment starts with an accurate diagnosis: a scrotal ultrasound and blood and urine tests to identify the infection. Then, depending on the cause (a bacterial infection, a viral or a non-infectious form), the doctor chooses antibiotic or anti-inflammatory treatment.
Conservative treatment remains the main method: broad-spectrum antibiotics, adjusted according to the culture results. At the same time, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used for pain and inflammation, along with local measures: cold applied to the scrotum, physiotherapy and bed rest in the initial stage.
Overall, treatment lasts from 2 to 4 weeks depending on the severity and type of the condition. Seeing a urologist early reduces the risk of the inflammation becoming chronic and preserves reproductive function.
Treatment of epididymo-orchitis in Ukraine costs noticeably less than at European and American clinics. This does not affect quality: the partner clinic has modern diagnostic equipment.
In addition, you save on travel, accommodation and related costs. MediUkraine organises consultations with experienced urologists at the partner clinic in Uzhhorod and supports you throughout the course.
This option is especially worthwhile if you need long-term treatment. Repeat visits, follow-up tests and outpatient monitoring cost much less than similar services at clinics abroad.
The safety of epididymo-orchitis treatment at Ukrainian clinics rests on following protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory conditions of the urogenital system. The partner clinic has equipment for ultrasound, microbiological testing and testing of antibiotic sensitivity. This makes antibiotic treatment targeted, without unnecessary use of broad-spectrum medicines.
The approach is comprehensive: antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, physical rest and correction of risk factors. The urology department works under a medical practice licence.
MediUkraine checks the urologists' qualifications and the clinic's facilities. You receive advice in advance on treatment methods, possible complications and the outlook for recovery.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It means clearing the inflammation of the testicle and epididymis: relieving pain and swelling, eliminating the organism and restoring normal function of the reproductive system. Treatment includes antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, physiotherapy, treatment of sexually transmitted infections and measures to restore blood flow in the testicle.
The first step is a urologist consultation at the partner clinic, from USD 20. The doctor gives the treatment plan and its cost after the examination: they depend on how complex the case is, which tests are needed, the type of treatment and the length of follow-up. MediUkraine will help you get a cost estimate before you travel.
Patients from most European countries and many other states come for a short course of treatment without a visa. Visa requirements apply to some countries, so check them individually before you travel.
Most patients are treated as outpatients. The urologist decides on the indications and the treatment plan after an examination, ultrasound and tests, taking into account the form of inflammation, any infections, other conditions and risks to fertility.
Treatment includes:
• antibiotics chosen according to test results;
• anti-inflammatory medicines;
• painkillers and spermatic cord blocks;
• treatment of accompanying infections (bacterial or viral);
• physiotherapy to reduce swelling;
• in rare complex cases, surgery.
The treatment plan is always tailored to you.
Mild inflammation improves within a few days, and full recovery usually takes 1–3 weeks. Chronic inflammation needs longer follow-up. The urologist monitors you until the symptoms have completely gone.
Without treatment, acute inflammation can impair sperm quality or lead to complications. Timely treatment, by contrast, helps preserve reproductive function and does not usually affect potency. Treatment protocols are designed to avoid long-term effects on men's health.
