Thigh liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic operations in Ukraine. It removes localised fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. Here we explain how the procedure works, who it suits and how much it costs.

In brief
  • Thigh liposuction removes localised fat that does not respond to exercise and diet
  • The operation is done under general or local anaesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure
  • Recovery takes 4–6 weeks, and the result settles after 3–6 months
  • The cost in Ukraine is considerably lower than in Poland, Germany and Israel

01Who is thigh liposuction suitable for?

Who thigh liposuction is suitable for

The operation suits patients with a stable weight who have localised fat deposits on the thighs: the inner thighs, outer thighs or backs of the thighs. The key condition is that the skin must be elastic enough to tighten evenly once the fat has been removed.

Liposuction is not a way to lose weight. It corrects the body’s contour and does not replace a healthy lifestyle. That is why surgeons turn down patients who are significantly overweight or whose skin has lost much of its firmness.

Contraindications

The operation is not performed in people with poorly controlled diabetes, blood clotting disorders or heart failure, or during pregnancy. A full pre-operative assessment is essential.

02Which techniques are used?

Liposuction techniques for the thighs

There are several liposuction techniques. The choice depends on the amount of fatty tissue, the area being treated and your individual characteristics; ask your surgeon which technique they recommend for you. You can read more on our thigh liposuction service page, where you can also request an online consultation.

  • Tumescent liposuction: the most common method. A solution that constricts blood vessels and numbs the area is injected into the tissues, and the fat is then removed with a cannula.
  • Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (VASER): ultrasound breaks down fat cells before they are removed, which may give a smoother result and a shorter recovery.
  • Laser liposuction: a laser melts the fat and at the same time stimulates collagen production, which can improve skin tone.
  • Water-jet liposuction (Body-Jet): the fat is separated with a jet of fluid; this is a gentler method suited to delicate areas.
💡

If you are concerned not only about the outer thighs but also about the inner thighs with loose skin, ask your surgeon about combining liposuction with a thigh lift: this can give a better aesthetic result under a single anaesthetic.

03How do the operation and recovery go?

Thigh liposuction surgery and recovery

The operation takes 1 to 3 hours, depending on the amount of fat removed and the number of areas treated. It is performed in an operating theatre under general or epidural anaesthesia. Afterwards you stay under the staff’s supervision for 4–24 hours.

Compression garments are an essential part of recovery. They are worn continuously for the first 3–4 weeks, then during the day for another 2–4 weeks. Swelling and bruising ease by the end of the second week, and the final contour of the thighs takes shape after 3–6 months.

What to avoid during recovery

For a month after the operation, do not use saunas, swimming pools or sunbeds, do not lift anything heavier than 5 kg and do not do strenuous sport. Physiotherapy, such as lymphatic drainage massage and pneumatic compression, helps swelling go down faster and is recommended from day 5–7.

04How much does thigh liposuction cost in Ukraine?

The cost depends on the technique, the extent of the procedure, the clinic and the surgeon’s qualifications. Prices for this operation in Ukraine are considerably lower than in EU countries. For comparison, here are approximate prices abroad; the cost at our partner clinic is set after a consultation, once the extent of the procedure is clear.

Country Approximate cost What affects the price
Poland €2,500 – €5,000 Clinic’s reputation, extent of the procedure
Germany €4,000 – €8,000 Surgeon’s qualifications, type of anaesthesia
Israel €5,000 – €10,000 Technology, aftercare, clinic

It is important to understand that a low price does not necessarily mean low quality. At the same time, do not choose a clinic on price alone: the surgeon’s reputation and the operating theatre’s facilities are decisive for the result.

MediUkraine can arrange a consultation with a plastic surgeon at our partner clinic, EXPERT in Uzhhorod, at a time that suits you, taking your wishes and budget into account. The clinic’s team communicates with international patients in English.

05Frequently asked questions

Will there be scars after thigh liposuction?+

The operation leaves tiny puncture scars of 3–5 mm where the cannula was inserted. Over time they become barely noticeable and are usually placed in natural skin folds.

Will the fat come back after the operation?+

Fat cells that have been removed do not grow back, so the result is long-lasting. However, with significant weight gain, fat can build up in other areas, so keeping your weight stable is important for maintaining the effect.

How much fat can be removed in one operation?+

The safe volume to remove at one time is up to 5–6 litres of aspirated fat. Exceeding this increases the risk of complications, so for larger volumes surgeons may recommend treatment in stages.

From what age can you have thigh liposuction?+

The operation is performed on patients aged 18 and over whose bodies have finished developing. There is no upper age limit, but after 50 the surgeon will carefully assess skin tone and your general health.
