Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
Inflammation becomes chronic when swollen mucosa, polyps or a deviated septum block the natural opening of a sinus: mucus stops draining, ventilation is impaired, and the inflammation sustains itself. That is why treatment has two goals: to relieve the inflammation and to restore the patency of the sinus openings. The treatment plan is based on CT and endoscopy: they show which sinuses are affected, whether there are polyps and how badly drainage is blocked.
The next step is choosing between medicines and a minimally invasive procedure. The endoscopic approach gives the surgeon a camera and fine instruments: they remove only diseased tissue and polyps without touching healthy structures. Blood loss is minimal and the post-operative period is short: most patients return to normal life within a few days.
During the operation the sinuses are cleared of inflamed tissue and pus, after which natural ventilation and drainage are restored. Endoscopic surgery and balloon sinuplasty are performed on an outpatient basis or with a short hospital stay, so the risk of complications remains low and the mucosa heals faster.
Chronic sinusitis is common and noticeably reduces quality of life: headaches, a blocked nose, loss of smell and constant tiredness. Timely diagnosis and treatment of chronic sinusitis reduce the risk of flare-ups and of the inflammation spreading to neighbouring structures.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

The method of treating chronic sinusitis is chosen individually, based on the cause of the inflammation, how badly the sinuses are affected, the presence of polyps, anatomical features and your general health. The main approaches are medicines, minimally invasive endoscopic procedures, physiotherapy and, in complex cases, surgical removal of diseased tissue. Surgery is considered when the inflammation does not respond to conservative treatment, nasal breathing is impaired or purulent complications keep recurring.
The main method at Ukrainian clinics is functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). It is a gentle procedure: using fine instruments under camera guidance, the doctor removes inflamed areas of mucosa, polyps or remaining pus and restores the natural drainage of mucus. Access is through the nasal passages, without incisions, so recovery is quick and discomfort is minimal.
Patients with chronic catarrhal sinusitis or frequent recurrences may be offered balloon sinuplasty. A catheter with a small balloon is inserted into the sinus, widening the natural opening and restoring ventilation. The procedure takes up to 30 minutes, needs no hospital stay and is suitable even for children and people with mild forms of inflammation.
When there are anatomical defects or extensive polyps, combined surgery may be needed. In most cases, however, minimally invasive techniques relieve symptoms, preserve the mucosa and noticeably improve nasal breathing within days of the procedure.
Care after surgery matters as much as the procedure itself. In the first days slight congestion, a feeling of pressure or moderate pain in the nose are possible: this is a natural reaction of the mucosa. Breathing gradually recovers, but avoid physical exertion, overheating and sudden changes in temperature for the first 1–2 weeks. Clean the nose yourself only as recommended by the doctor.
How quickly you return to your usual routine depends on the scope of the procedure. After balloon sinuplasty people return to work after 2–3 days, and after endoscopic sinus surgery after 5–7 days. The doctor makes the final decision after the follow-up examination.
Keep the nose clean by rinsing it with saline solutions, and avoid dust, smoke and strong smells. Until the mucosa has fully healed, do not go to swimming pools, bathhouses or saunas. Drink more water, eat a balanced diet and do not overuse decongestant drops.
If you develop a temperature, marked pain or purulent discharge, or your nose becomes blocked again, contact the clinic promptly for an examination and adjustment of your treatment. A follow-up visit to the ENT specialist is essential: during an endoscopic examination the doctor assesses how the mucosa is healing.
For patients who have lived for years with a blocked nose, headaches and repeated colds, what matters is not only the operation itself but also whether the mucosa and the natural ventilation of the sinuses are preserved. Endoscopic sinus surgery and balloon sinuplasty, performed correctly, give a long-lasting result: breathing without pain or pressure, return of the sense of smell and restful sleep.
The best method is chosen individually. Before the procedure the doctor performs a CT scan or nasal endoscopy and identifies the cause of the inflammation: polyps, a deviated septum, chronic infection or an allergic component. If you are prone to repeated inflammation or allergic rhinitis, additional treatment is prescribed to stabilise the mucosa and prevent recurrences.
Not everyone needs surgery. If the symptoms are moderate and the condition is stable, the doctor may suggest treatment with medicines, monitored with tests. The decision on surgery is made after detailed diagnostics (CT, endoscopy, tests) and only when conservative therapy does not give a lasting effect.
When planning treatment, count not only the cost of the procedure itself but also related costs: accommodation, tests, medicines and post-operative care. In Ukraine the total bill usually comes out lower: logistics are simpler, and diagnostics, consultation and surgery take place at one medical centre.
Why are prices lower in Ukraine? First, the cost of medical services (a day in hospital, premises, salaries, consumables) is significantly lower than in EU countries or Turkey. Second, competition among private clinics produces transparent service packages with no hidden payments. Third, minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic sinus surgery or balloon sinuplasty shorten the hospital stay, which directly reduces the final amount.
The lower price does not mean lower standards: ENT centres work to international standards and provide sterility, anaesthetic support and monitoring after the procedure. ENT surgeons perform these procedures routinely, with predictable results and a low complication rate.
lower cost of hospital stays, premises and consumables;
transparent service packages and strong competition among private clinics;
a short hospital stay thanks to minimally invasive endoscopic techniques and quick recovery.
Private clinics in Ukraine treat chronic sinusitis to European medical standards: full anaesthetic support, infection control and monitoring of your condition after the procedure. Endoscopic sinus operations are performed routinely, with a short hospital stay and a predictable recovery. Most centres have experienced ENT specialists and equipment that allows diagnostics, treatment and post-operative follow-up in one place.
When choosing a clinic, look at the number of procedures performed, the doctor's experience, adherence to international protocols, the transparency of the quote, real patient reviews, the quality of communication and treatment outcomes.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
Chronic sinusitis is long-lasting inflammation of the paranasal sinuses that persists for more than 12 weeks. It causes a blocked nose, headaches, discharge, reduced sense of smell and a feeling of pressure in the face. It is driven by impaired ventilation of the sinuses due to infection, a deviated septum, polyps or allergy.
The cost depends on how severe the inflammation is and the method chosen: medicines or surgery. Conservative therapy costs USD 150–300, and endoscopic sinus surgery from USD 318, which is significantly lower than in EU countries or Turkey.
Most patients from European countries and the UK do not need a visa: they can come for an examination or surgery with just a valid passport. Entry rules depend on your citizenship and can change, so check the current requirements before the trip.
Surgery is considered if the symptoms have lasted for more than 3 months and do not go away after courses of antibiotics and rinsing, and CT shows that the natural openings of the sinuses are blocked. Such patients usually have frequent recurrences, facial pain and chronic fatigue due to impaired nasal breathing.
In the early stages, medicines are used: antibiotics, rinsing, corticosteroids and physiotherapy. If this does not work, endoscopic sinus surgery is performed: a procedure with little tissue trauma that restores normal drainage and breathing.
After an endoscopic procedure recovery takes 7–10 days. During this time avoid temperature changes, flying, swimming pools and intense physical exertion. Patients return to their usual routine quickly.
It does, and for the better: endoscopic techniques improve the sense of smell and nasal breathing. After surgery constant congestion and headaches usually ease, and sleep and concentration improve. The doctor monitors the condition of the mucosa during endoscopic check-ups.
