Prices in the “Ukraine” column come from MediUkraine’s partner clinics. The Czech Republic and Turkey columns show the lower bounds of prices published by clinics there (for Turkey, also the Turkish Dental Association’s recommended 2026 tariff), collected in August 2026 and converted to US dollars at the rate on the day of collection. A dash means we could not find a comparable published price. In any country, the final cost is set by the clinic after an examination.
Skin hanging over the eyes has two different causes, and the extent of surgery depends on which one it is. The first is excess skin itself, when it loses elasticity and lies in a fold on the lashes: here it is enough to excise the excess tissue and fat herniation. The second is weakening of the muscle that raises the eyelid; in that case excising skin alone is not enough, and work on the aponeurosis is needed. The surgeon distinguishes between these conditions at the examination by measuring the height of the eyelid and checking its mobility.
Upper blepharoplasty is performed with two techniques: the classic surgical technique with an incision along the natural crease, and a minimally invasive technique using radiofrequency technology or a laser. The choice depends on the degree of ptosis, the condition of the skin and the patient's age. Most people seek it after the age of 40, when the skin's natural elasticity declines. The operation is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, and work on both eyes takes 30–60 minutes.
The first changes are noticeable after 2–3 weeks, and the final effect develops over 2–3 months. Patients notice a more open look and less eye strain when reading and working at a screen. Complications are rare if you follow your doctor's recommendations on caring for the stitches.
MediUkraine will find a specialist in oculoplastic surgery and arrange a consultation at a clinic where the indications will be assessed and the course of the operation planned.
Travel. Ukrainian airspace is closed, so there are no commercial flights. Uzhhorod lies right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary, so patients usually arrive overland from one of these two countries, by car, bus or train.
Visas. Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the United States do not need a visa for short stays in Ukraine. Rules depend on your citizenship, so check your own before booking.
Safety, plainly. Ukraine is at war. Air raid alerts occur across the country, including in Uzhhorod, and an appointment can be interrupted by one. Several governments advise against travel to Ukraine, and while that advice stands, ordinary travel and medical insurance is often void — confirm your cover with your insurer before you commit to anything.
Language. MediUkraine handles correspondence, scheduling, the written treatment plan and the quote in English. The clinic's team communicates with international patients in English.
Payment. You pay the clinic directly. Our coordination service is free of charge for you.

Traditional surgical blepharoplasty is the classic method: the surgeon removes excess skin and fat herniation through an incision in the eyelid crease. It is performed under local or general anaesthesia, and the result is long-lasting. The scar is hidden in the natural crease and over time becomes almost invisible. This method is chosen for pronounced age-related changes and ptosis of the upper eyelids.
Laser and radiofrequency blepharoplasty are minimally invasive technologies that stimulate collagen synthesis without extensive incisions. The laser removes excess skin by vaporisation and seals the blood vessels at the same time, so there is less bruising. This option suits mild to moderate skin laxity and needs less recovery time than traditional surgery.
A thread lift is the least traumatic option: absorbable threads support the soft tissues of the eyelid. It is performed as an outpatient procedure, without large incisions, and is used for the early signs of ageing. The result is less pronounced than after traditional surgery, but recovery takes only 2–3 days.
The MediUkraine team will help you match these methods to your situation and to the recommendations of the specialist you choose.
Patients return to everyday activities in about 7-10 days. The first two days are crucial: you need rest, no physical exertion and protection of your eyes from bright light. Swelling and bruising peak on day 2-3 and then gradually subside. To reduce inflammation, cold compresses are applied to the eyelids during this period for 10-15 minutes several times a day.
Follow your surgeon's recommendations to the letter: do not touch the stitches, do not use cosmetics for the period your doctor specifies, and do not press on your eyes. From the third week, activity is increased gradually, with intensive training no sooner than 3-4 weeks. The result stabilises within 2-3 months, once the swelling has gone down completely and the final eyelid contour has formed.
The MediUkraine platform will find a surgeon and arrange a consultation at which you will be told how recovery is likely to go in your case, taking into account the indications and the technique chosen. There you can also find out how many follow-up visits you will need after surgery.
Upper eyelid correction removes excess skin and fatty tissue and tightens the soft tissues of this area. It is performed when age-related changes, inherited anatomy or neurological disorders cause the skin to droop, restricting the field of vision and giving the face a tired expression.
The anaesthesia depends on the extent of the work: local with sedation, or general. The surgeon makes an incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid, removes or redistributes excess skin and fatty tissue, and then places intradermal stitches, which leave almost no visible scars. The whole procedure takes 30–60 minutes.
If you are considering this correction, MediUkraine will find an experienced clinic and a qualified surgeon in Ukraine, who will examine your eyelids at the consultation and propose a treatment plan.
Upper blepharoplasty in Ukraine costs noticeably less than at Western European and American clinics, and the price is transparent from the start. Where abroad the operation reaches 5–8 thousand euros, Ukrainian specialists perform it from USD 381, following international quality standards. This is not a matter of saving on materials or on the surgeon's experience: the difference comes from the lower cost of running clinics and operating theatres in Ukraine.
MediUkraine saves patients from abroad time and red tape in organising treatment. The service handles the preliminary consultation with the surgeon and agreeing the date of surgery, and can advise on transfers and help you find accommodation. Patients from Western countries do not have to search for a clinic themselves or negotiate the details of the procedure separately.
Staff at Ukrainian clinics regularly take further training to international standards, so the result is comparable with European care. You can compare the prices of specific clinics and what each includes before you travel, at the selection stage.
The safety of upper eyelid surgery rests on following international protocols for preparing and performing procedures. During the operation your condition is tracked by vital signs monitors, which reduces the risk of complications.
MediUkraine's partner clinics that perform eyelid surgery meet international quality standards. They use sterile instruments and precise surgical equipment. The staff are trained in infection control, anaesthesia and emergency care.
MediUkraine selects a certified clinic and a surgeon based on their experience and specialisation. Before surgery you have a detailed consultation at which your anatomy is assessed and the surgical technique is planned. Post-operative support includes regular check-ups to monitor healing and spot any deviations in time.

📍 Uzhhorod, Ukraine
A multidisciplinary hospital in Uzhhorod, part of a network of medical facilities in western Ukraine: an outpatient clinic, a surgical centre covering 15 specialties and a 30-bed inpatient unit. Its 52 doctors include professors and PhDs; many operations are done as day surgery, with discharge after 1–2 days.
It is a plastic surgery operation in which excess skin, part of the muscle and fat deposits in the eyelid area are removed. It eliminates hooding skin over the eyes, restores an open look and refreshes the face. The amount of tissue to be removed is marked out individually, so your facial expressions and features remain your own.
The price depends on the clinic, the surgeon's qualifications and the complexity of the operation. At Ukrainian clinics the procedure costs noticeably less than in Europe, while they work according to international protocols.
It is worth seeing a plastic surgeon if you have tired-looking eyes, excess skin on the eyelids, a drooping upper eyelid, bags or asymmetry of the eyes. Another reason is a narrowed field of vision caused by hooding skin. At the consultation the surgeon will determine whether you need surgery and draw up a treatment plan.
Before surgery you have a work-up: routine blood tests, an ECG and consultations with a general physician and an ophthalmologist. A few days before the procedure you are advised to cut out alcohol, coffee and fatty food and to tell your doctor about all the medicines you take. On the day of surgery you come with an empty stomach and without make-up.
The operation is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is also postponed during a flare-up of a chronic disease, with high blood pressure or with diabetes. The final decision is made after a medical examination.
Returning to normal activities takes on average 7–14 days. Swelling and bruising around the eyes peak in the first three days and then gradually subside over the second week. Slight puffiness may last up to 3–4 weeks, especially in the evening, but by then it is barely noticeable to others.
Restrictions on intense physical exertion, saunas and contact sports apply for 2–3 weeks. By day 5–7 most patients are back at work, as long as it does not involve physical activity. Eye make-up is allowed after 7–10 days, and the result finally stabilises by 3 months, when the scar has matured. MediUkraine will find you a clinic where the surgeon will explain the recovery timeline in your particular case and give you precise recommendations on caring for your eyelids during this period.
Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fatty tissue, and whether one procedure is enough depends on the cause of the hooding. If the eyelid has drooped because of lax skin and fat, the operation removes these defects and does not need repeating. If, however, the muscle that raises the eyelid has weakened, correction of Müller's muscle or the aponeurosis is also needed, and one session will not be enough.
Most patients achieve the result they want after the first operation, and the new line of the eyelid margin lasts for years. The skin continues to age, though, so a repeat procedure may be needed after 10–15 years. MediUkraine will find you an experienced ophthalmic surgeon who will assess the degree of ptosis and tell you what extent of correction you need. A specialist consultation will settle any doubts about how many procedures you need.
